Too popular? Too Italian?
Deep in over analyzing names and wondering, when is a name too popular? We are having a girl and loved Sophia and Olivia but they are in the top 5 most popular names. Is it way too unoriginal to pick a name from this list? Our other thoughts are....
Lucia (Lucy)
Ariana
Annabel
Stella
Julia
Allegra
Fiona
Last name is Marchione so we are nervous about any first names that are too italian with an already very italian last name. Thoughts? Suggestions?
Thx!

Hi kpeppers,
Of the names that you listed, the only one that would even register to me as being Italian would be Lucia, and probably less so if you plan to call her Lucy. Names that are somewhat Italian sounding (only because of the last name, on their own sound pretty American/multicultural/universal) are Ariana, Stella, Julia (Giulia), and Allegra. Annabel and Fiona are fine with combined with the surname. Look at the top names in the US --- obviously Italian/Italian sounding names are very pleasing in the US -- Isabella, Sofia, Gianna, Mia, Olivia, Emma, Amelia, Emilia, Gabriella --- In short, I don't think any of them sound overwhelmingly Italian (although coming from an Italian background myself - Strong Italian names are highly encouraged among the family, at least mine).
Out of curiosity, do you pronounce your surname with a K-sound or a CH-sound? Also, what pronunciation of Lucia were you planning to use? I love the look of Lucia Marchione, and am just wondering which of the ideas that I am thinking is correct.
I also like Allegra, Julia, and Stella."Don't try to be modern, it's the most old-fashioned thing there is," - Attilio, The Tiger and the Snow
Domenico/Dominic, Gianfranco/Gianpaolo, Giacomo, Antonio, Raphael, Calogero, Leopold, Angelo, Giorgio, Alban, Malachi, Dante, Mirek, Dario, Lionel
Katarina/Caterina, Irena, Silvia, Aniela, Delfina, Raffaella, Apollonia, Cecilia, Pasqualina, Rosalind/Rosina, Josephine, Allegra, Alba, Leokadia, Annunziata/Nunzia, Bronya, Antonella, Adrasteia, Vincenza, Althea, Eurydice, Regina

Lucia (Lucy) - Very very VERY beautiful! I love how it looks and sounds with Marchione.
Ariana - I'm not too keen on this one, but it is a nice name. Just not my style.
Annabel - Too cutesy for me. Also it sadly reminds me of babybel.
Stella - Bad assiciations have ruined this for me.
Julia - I like it. It's very pretty and simple, but it's not my favourite on your list.
Allegra - Very lovely! I really like the name, but again it's probably not my favourite.
Fiona - One of my favourite names! It looks and sounds beautiful.
For me the top 2 would be Lucia and Fiona, but I just can't get over how pretty Lucia Marchione looks and sounds, so Lucia wins for me.

Thank you so much ladies! I love the feedback! Teacherma our last name is pronounced Mar She Ione. Originally we were set on Lucia but a lot of friends noted that they think it may be to hard to pronounce both the first and last name especially when combined. For Lucia we like it as Lu Chi A like Santa Lucia which is my grandmother's maiden name.
Lunaaah I feel you on the associations which is a shame cause the name is so cute. My family won't stop saying Stellllllllllla from Street Car Named Desire every time I mention it and a few guys have said they just think of beer, Stella Artois.
The naming game is so fun but hard to settle on that perfect one!
