spelling options on the name Cara-leena

I really like this and I have seen it spelled Carolina, but to me I would say that name Carolina as in the name of the N. and S. states. So what would be the best spelling to make the pronunciation of Cara-leena clear? Caraleena doesn't look right to me. (or Caroleena) Any suggestions?

I think the most intuitive spelling (for the pronunciation you are aiming for) would be Carolena
Mother of three teenagers: (1) Daniel Glen, (2) Timothy Austin, and (3) Rebecca Jane... all middle names honor family... 3rd generation mn Jane. (A second girl would have been Susanna Eve and a third boy, maybe Isaac...)

Make them separate like you just put in the thread title? Cara Leena or Cara Lina.

I don't think there's a great way around this problem. Carolena to me is more likely prn Carolayna or prn Carolehna, although prn Caroleena could make sense. I've seen some people spell it Karolina, with the idea that the German/Scandinavian use of the K spelling reinforces the pronunciation used in those language, which is the one you like.

I say just go with Carolina - it looks the most "correct" - for people who read her name first, she'll have to explain it but can say something 'like in Spanish' or 'like in German', when she introduces herself it'll be easier because she'll just say it, and then if people ask to spell it she can say, 'like the states'.

    Good luck!

Karolina would do it for me as the languages where that's the correct spelling would pronounce it "-leena"
I know the K spelling is kind of trendy, but in this case it would be correct.

Carolina would be fine, you may have to correct some ppl but just about every name has some pron. questions

    Caroleena/Carolena make my eyes hurt.

Carolina or Karolina. That's how the name is spelled. It's a classic name in many languages, and I'd always pronounce Carolina as a name as "car-o-lee-na;" really everything else looks illiterate to me.

I vote for Karolina. I know a girl whose name is spelled like this and it seems to work well. Every time I see Carolina I want to pronounce it like the states.

It would depend on the surname for me. If I saw Carolina Suarez or Carolina Petrovitz then I'd assume it was "care-o-lee-na". If I saw Carolina Smith I'd think "care-o-lie-na". So if the surname isn't "ethnic" then I'd go with Karolina

Keep the regular spelling. All of the variations just look ridiculous and made up. She may have to correct people once or twice but after that it should be fine.
