Django
So my SO has loved this name for a long time. He associates it with the musician which he also associates with his father. His father really instilled in him a love of music, especially more vintage sounds. I actually love this type of music as well, but I find it a bit ridiculous to be honest, at least as a first name. It's a word name anyway (And not the musicians actual name, just a stage name) which I generally don't like.
1) What do you think of it in general?
2) How would you feel about it as a middle name? (which is all I think I could consider)
3) Do you think the new "Django Unchained" movie is going to have an impact on it?
4) Other thoughts?
Thanks!Switching careers and becoming an RN! Sadly mommy plans will have to wait until that's done. Still loving names though!

1) I love the name. It's on my long list.
2) Yeah, it's great
3) Possibly. It'll at least bring some visibility to the name. And teach people how to pronounce it.
4) I don't think it's ridiculous at all. Just because it's not as familiar to people as other names might be does not make it ridiculous.Elliot ~ Arlo ~ Silas ~ Deacon ~ Henry ~ Flynn ~ Adam ~ Samuel ~ Malachy ~ Jasper

1) What do you think of it in general? I hope I'm not being offensive but the name has a pretty ridiculous sound. I just really dislike it.
2) How would you feel about it as a middle name? (which is all I think I could consider) I think it's a good middle name, interesting with a good back story.
3) Do you think the new "Django Unchained" movie is going to have an impact on it? Probably a little. People will know about it and know how to pronounce it.
4) Other thoughts? If it's not even the musicians real name, and the musician is important to your husband, maybe he'll consider the musicians real name? Maybe you can convince him to use it as a middle name.http://angelslittleowl.wordpress.com/

Just to clarify, I don't think it's ridiculous because it's "unfamiliar". I like plenty of names that aren't familiar. I think the fact that it's just a Romanian word that he took and went by, and not an actual name is what I can't get behind.
Dantea, his actual first name is Jean....which is super common in France, and pretty feminine here, and not very connected to him in either of our minds. So it's not really any option - but it was a good thought.Switching careers and becoming an RN! Sadly mommy plans will have to wait until that's done. Still loving names though!

I think it'll be better as a middle name, Django actually means gypsy, not sure if it's condescending or not though.... but to be on the safe side, I wouldn't use it as a first name. The movie might impact it, I don't know how popular it'll be though.... I haven't heard of it till this thread, so maybe not.
Personally I don't like the name, it's just not my style. Our Cats:

I love it! I, too, would only use it as a MN, but it has a sort of Midwestern, kick-butt cowboy type vibe to me, and I love seeing it both used and considered! I saw the combo August Django a while ago and I thought that was so cool. I am not a movie person at all, so I have no clue what that movie is, or how big it'll be, but if people like it, I think it might go up a bit in popularity, but only by a bit. I doubt it'll ever enter the top 1000.
Good luck!Ashley

I don't like it at all, at least not as a first name. It seems harsh and generally non-nameish to me (like, it's very much a stage name - you wouldn't call your kid Whoopi either, no matter how much you like her). if you like it in the middle that's something else, but as a first name, i honestly think it will come across as an attempt to be artsy and pretentious.

hmmm... I don't know.... I'd be wary about using it... I don't know if the gypsies would find that offensive. The singer spent time with them, so that makes sense.... but if you have no connection to them.... also gypsies are frowned upon a lot in society, or at least where I am from.
