I think you can do the k if your last name is Germanic or at least not too American-sounding. :-). Otherwise, I honestly would think it was someone trying to come up with a clever spelling (even though I did recognize its German). K's are cool, though. If we choose Erik as a name, we will spell it with a k and our daughter is Katherine.
