The title of the thread is Exactly how Popular is Cora? and I asked if Cora would sound alright with Rowan. It's okay if you don't think they match, but she implied that it would be "unfair." Like one of my daughter's would have a pretty name, and the other one wouldn't. How else should I have taken that? I have a feeling it's due to Rowan being a unisex name, as if it's unfair and mean to give your daughter a unisex name. I grew up with a unisex name and it did not tame my love of Barbies and makeup, it never made me feel like less of a girl. I always sense animosity towards her name on these boards.
My cherished daughter, Rowan Jane. ~b. 10/2011~

I only know one little girl named Cora (but spelled Quorra for some stupid reason). I think it matches the style of Rowen perfectly. Both names are pleasant sounding, and simple but neither is frilly. Also, I ADORE Rowen for a little girl! I don't like Cora quite as much but they certainly don't seem mismatched in any way.
I have completely random and eclectic taste in everything, including names.

I guess I don't understand that feeling. I've never personally liked the name Sloane, but I definitely don't think it would sound bad next to Geneva. Just because a name ends in A, that doesn't automatically make it more feminine. There are plenty of feminine names that end in E or O, even I. I've always considered Rowan a girl's name because the first time I heard it was on a little girl so in my mind, it is a feminine name.

I don't live in the US so can't comment on how popular it is.
But I would say that I like Rowan and Cora together. It reminds me of the sisters I know named Rowan and Cerys. And neither of them feel they have been treated "unfairly" by their parents because their names are different in style!
Also,I don't think Rowan is boyish. Androgynous maybe, but not boyish.
And I speak as one of the "don't like boys names on girls" people!Last edited by hayley88; July 3rd, 2012 at 02:39 PM.

The thread she's referring to is this one: http://nameberry.com/nametalk/thread...Unfair-Sibsets
The title of it is Unfair Sibsets and people have been using it to post sibsets that they feel are mismatched or where one person's name sticks out among their siblings. I don't think nat108 was implying that your daughters would view their names as unfair, just that she felt Rowan and Cora are mismatched.
Personally, I really like Cora and have never run into anyone with the name. If it's overly popular in your area, you could always go for a longer name wit Cora as a nickname, such as Coralie, Cordelia, Coral, Coraline, Corabel, etc. Rowan and Coral would be kind of cute as sisters, since they're both nature names that relate to colors. Otherwise, I think Rowan and Cora would be fine.
