Definitely makes me think of the Simpsons first, then the Iliad and the Odyssey second. It just isn't such an attractive sounding name to me in general.

I actually think Homer's pretty adorable. It would be quite the ahead-of-the-curve vintage choice if you ask me.

I'm so tickled Homer is starting to get some attention.

I also love Homer. If Oscar can overcome the Grouch, then Homer can overcome Simpson. I've never watched The Simpsons so never had that association. I always knew Homer as the name of two of my great-grandfathers, which is far more important to me than any cartoon character. I say this often: the only way for a name to overcome a pop culture association is for people to use the name again. It's sad that we continue to let bad characters ruin perfectly nice names. Homer has such a long and rich history that it is a shame to overlook it because of one dumb cartoon. If you ask me Homer is due for a comeback anyway, and I'd like to see it on the next wave of vintage names dusted off and recycled for a new generation of boys.
