    Margaret vs. Emily

Really liking both name. I don't like that Emily is so popular, but think it is a sweet name. I like that Margaret isn't as popular, but not loving that it isn't as short and sweet as Emily. DH really loves Emily and I am leaning towards Margaret. Which would you pick and why?

I would pick Margaret, because it is beautiful and stately, comes with a lot of possible nicknames, and is less common than Emily. Emily is pretty common and sounds a bit prim to me.

Although common, the name Emily is just perfection to me. It's pretty, it's spunky, it conjures the image of a soft, artsy type with a sunny smile and a quiet strength (to me, anyway - despite the popularity, I still find its sound a little quirky, vintage and sweet) but is right at home on a firecracker sport-star type too. Did I mention that the idea of a little Em is just adorable? The name is downright gorgeous.

Margaret's nice too, but I find it a little heavy in comparison to the musical Emily. Still, it's a lovely strong name so you can't really go wrong with either. Good luck

I prefer Margaret over Emily. I like the nn's of Margot or Maggie. Emily is a fine name. The one problem is that a. it's popular and b. there are so many variations floating around that are also popular like Emmy, Emma, Emmeline, Emmabelle, Amelie... Just think it would be hard to be Emily in a class with Emma and Emme!

Margaret Emily isn't a bad idea! We are struggling with what my be a good middle name if we use Margaret. I want something short and sweet since Margaret is a little longer.

I prefer Emily. Margaret is an unattractive name to me.

Emily Margaret is a nice middle ground.

They are both great. Emily is so popular because it a nice name. I also like the combo Emily Margaret. The reverse is wonderful, too!
