This is my greatest fear when naming!!!!! I have picked out a girl's name that is very unique and what I consider to be the most beautiful name I've ever heard (hence, why I'm using it). But, how do I name a second daughter or a third after giving my favorite name (which is VERY unique) to their older sister? I have found a few other unique names that I think could almost match, but I'm lucky my boyfriend likes my one (non-negotiable haha) name. I don't think he liked any of the others I came up with to "match" it!
pet peeves: nicknames as given names; unconventional spellings; masculine names on girls
not-so-guilty pleasures: five-syllable girls' names; virtue and nature names; over-the-top antique names for boys
(if i repeat name suggestions in a thread, it's because i like them! no apologies here for repeats of great names!

This is what I was worried about when naming our third daughter (now 6 weeks), and got a little obsessed with wanting something that matched the tone and flair of her sisters names, something pretty, girly, slightly unusual, 3 syllables and ending in a! In the end I managed to chill out and let go of one of my 'rules', and in a way if no.3 had had a 3 syllable name maybe all 3 names would be too matchy, I'm not sure.
Sometimes I wish I'd campaigned for a 3 syllable name *but* in the end both dh and I loved the name Thea too much to use something different or dilute how pretty and lovely it was by choosing a longer version only to use the 'nn'
And I think my girls names do go together without being weird or mismatched?
I have already wondered about what other names we might choose if there was ever a 4th! I think as a name geek I will never stop thinking of names, even when I've only just named a beautiful new little girl! And though I said I was able to let go of my rule over syllables I do feel if we ever had a 4th then they would be more than likely to have 2 syllables. Then we would have two with 3 and two with 2 and it would feel 'fair and even' if that makes any sense at all!
On the subject of sibsets I know personally.....my sil is Michelle and has a brother called Michael...lol maybe taking matching a little bit far? There is a family of girls we know called Izzy-Mae, Emily and Martha.....Martha always sounds mismatched to me, but I am eagerly awaiting what they are going to name no.4!
My own sibset is Dominic Francis, Rebecca Maria and Emma Victoria Margaret - I think our parents did very well! And though I always felt a bit jipped that Emma got 2 middles it was only really because her initials would otherwise have spelt EVL!Rebecca Maria x

DH's subset is Reuben, Jared and Andrew. I always think it seems a little mismatched, like an unusual OLd Testament name, a trendy name (for the late 70s) and a classic common Biblical name. I am not a fan of starting sib names with the same letter on purpose, but I can understand, like my friend has two little girls and her MIL monograms dresses, and the friend wanted the second girlto be able to wear the beautiful dresses too, so she stuck with A names. I'm good with that, as long as you truly love the name and aren't forcing it. If our second had been a boy, our fav name would have started with the same letter as our first son's name. I was reluctant to use it bc of that, but eventually came to be ok with it. However we had a girl, so didn't have to worry about it. Rhyming names are bad, esp on twins. Ugh! Just cannot see the appeal! We have some friends who were seriously considering naming their DD Ella, and they already have an Elijah. Thankfully they went with a totally different name. My SIL (who incidentally stole my girl name a few yrs back) has a mismatched set, IMO. She has Lilly-Anne and Kelton (boy). Cannot stand Kelton and think its so weird with Lilly Anne.
Mom to Seth Andrew and Madeline Frances
Other current favorites (girls): Rosemary, Elizabeth, Tessa, Susanna; (boys): Noel, Spencer, Patrick

This discussion has come up many times in life as my siblings and I have uneven names. Vanessa, Jerica and Steven. A few years ago my brother asked me "How come you and Jerica got awesome names and I got stuck with Steven?"
To which I replied, "That's easy, Dad named you, nough said". I actully named my sister at age 4. I loved names even then.
I feel bad when I see a family with a Jillian, Samatha and Martha. It's worse when it's twins. I know twins named Summer and Marilyn.Mama to Vincent Robert "Vince" Age 3. 5th Generation "V" and Henry Donovan "Hanky Pank" "Spanky" 10/27/11.
