Nicknames you love, but have no full name to go with
I have nicknames that I love, but can't find full names to go with them. Does anyone else have this problem? I would love to hear about it.
Liv (LOVE Liv but won't use Olivia due to popularity)
Evie (Love this nn and I like Evelyn, but not enough to use it)
Ellie (Haven't found a name I love yet for this one)
Libby (Love this one almost as much as Liv. The only name I like with it so far is Liberty and I am not 100% in love with it)
Pip (I think this is cute. I do like Piper and Pippa, but would like other options)
Remy (I like this nn for a boy or girl, but I don't like Remy as a stand-alone name)
Tate (Also like this for a boy or girl but can't find a longer name to go with it besides Tatum)
Gabe (I love Gabriel so much, but it's just too popular for me)
Gus (I love Gus but I don't like August and can't think of any other longer names for it)
Wes (LOVE Wes. I do like Wesley but I'm not in love with it)
West (I think West is so cool but I don't like Weston)
Tripp (I don't think I would have the guts the use this as a stand-alone name but I can't think of a longer version)
Remy (Love this nn on both sexes but can't find a longer name)
Tate (Love this for a boy nn also, but the only name I can find that's longer is Tatum, which I prefer on a girl)
Thanks for any suggestions!

GiGi: Not really into Giovanna, but that could change.
Gabe: I also love this name. I have been dreaming about meeting someone named Gabriel Kai for years. Lol
Liam: Cannot use William, it's incorporated some way in my Grandfathers, Uncle, and Cousin's name.
Auggie: I like August/Augustus, but cannot picture my child with that name.
Cole & Colt: Can stand alone, but I would Love to you use the longer name Colton, but it does not work with my last name. Plus, my teenage niece says their are too many Colton's in her school.
Winnie: I adore the name Rhoswen at the moment, but I think pronunciation issues will be a major problem for her if I decide to use that name. Winifred I am not a fan of, so that was out the moment I saw -fred.
Dash: Love Dashiell, but on the fence about using it as a first name.
Rory: I just fell in love with this nickname when I thought I was going to use Aurora somewhere in my daughter's name. It's become too popular for me and most people I know have trouble pronouncing it.
Toby/Tobi: Thanks to "Good Luck Charlie" I can see this nn soaring up a few levels. I was still on the fence on whether I like Tobias or Tobiah more, after the name on the show was chosen, my interest has went down.
Cal: Like it to honor my grandmother's maiden name, but I fell out of like/love with Calvin by the time I hit 5th grade.
Saki: Japanese wine, but not sure many people will know.
Saku: I think this may sometimes be misheard as suck you or something worse...
Sookie or Suki: I like it since I started watching "Gilmore Girls," but the Jersey Shore person, kinda turned me off the name.
[Saki, Saku, Sookie, or Suki: Can be used for Sakura, but not sure how well it will be pronounce in Southern U.S.]
Lily: I am in completely smitten with the name Liliana, yet Lily is too popular for me as a stand alone name. So, if I am still in love with Liliana, I will just call her Lilou.
May add more later...this is all I can remember for now.Last edited by natural; June 29th, 2012 at 05:22 AM.

Babynamer, here's some ideas. Most you have probably already thought of! But hopefully I can be some help. I have put *'s next to my favourites.
Liv : How about Olive*?
Evie : Evangeline, Everly, Yvonne, Evelina*, Evalina, Avelina, Genevieve*, Evandra, Evana, Evette*, Elvira, Everie
Ellie : Elisabeth, Ella, Eloise, Ellen, Eliza, Elaine, Elliot*, Eldora, Eliana, Arielle*, Chantelle, Rochelle, Michelle
Libby : Can only think of Elizabeth, sorry!
Pip : Phillipa, Pheobe, Penelope. I love Piper* though.
Remy: Rosemary*, Remington, Remaya
Tate : Nathaniel (boy).
Gabe : I can’t think of anything other than Gabrielle. You could always use Gabe as the middle name, with a ‘fuller’ first name. But nn becomes Gabe.
Gus : Ohh I love August*. Otherwise, Angus, Augustine, Guston, Gideon, Fergus, Ferguson*.
Wes : I love the name West.
West : I think this is enough on it’s own!
Tripp : Wyatt (a stretch I know!)
Remy : Remus* (fond memories for harry potter fans, hehe)
Tate : Nathanial*

I usually have the opposite problem, but here are some I like more than the full names they're conventionally associated with or that lack full names:
Mitzi - Miriam, Mary, Maria
Mindy - Melinda
Babs - Barbara
Sadie - Sarah
Posey - Josephine (yes, it can be used for other names but IIRC I'm not terribly fond of any of them, especially Josephine)
Kip - Christopher
Kit - Katherine (overdone, my sister is one and every other girl in some of my classes was a Katie or a Kate)
Molly, Polly - Mary
Liz, Lizzy, Tibby, Libby, Buffy, Betsy - Elizabeth (has several cute nicknames, but the full name is so overdone and I've never been fond of the -beth part or the nickname Beth)
Meg - Margaret (I don't hate Margaret at all and it isn't quite as overdone as Elizabeth, but I've known so many. I like several international variations of Margaret and Elizabeth, though.)
Trip, Tawny (is this ever a nickname? I think of it like Buffy, which is), Biff, Bebe, Kiki, Miffy (would work well for Mafalda), Missy, Corky (would work well for Corcoran) - don't go with a particular name
But I can usually at least tolerate the full name. Miriam may be an exception.

Maggie: Margaret feels too dated and Magnolia etc are just too frilly for me.
Milly: I don't like Millicent or Matilda enough to use and Camille/Camilla feels too tied to the royal family atm.
Libby: I'm not 100% on Elizabeth, and Liberty's not my style. I'm struggling to think of something else that's not too out there.
Gus: I really don't like August or variants and Angus/Fergus are just so-so.
