Emag08 - What about Bethan/Bethany as a long form of Beth? And a Max- name could shorten to Mac.

Rylane - What about Amelie nn Mel? You've got the Mel sound slap bang in the middle there.

@NameLover and RedTulips - I always fancied that you could get Lottie out of Alouette. Coincidentally, it happens to be French for Lark, so you could use it to get to that nn too

I've always loved the nn Shush - which is the nn of a character in a book I read once. The character is a prostitute though, and her real name is Sugar, which I don't think I could bestow upon a child due to all the "hey sugar" comments it would get...

I love the name Pippa and plan on using it if we find out we're having a girl, but I'll name her Philippa - and call her Pippa. Have you thought of doing that? It's so cute!

Liv (LOVE Liv but won't use Olivia due to popularity)
Evie (Love this nn and I like Evelyn, but not enough to use it)
Ellie (Haven't found a name I love yet for this one)
Libby (Love this one almost as much as Liv. The only name I like with it so far is Liberty and I am not 100% in love with it)
Pip (I think this is cute. I do like Piper and Pippa, but would like other options)
Remy (I like this nn for a boy or girl, but I don't like Remy as a stand-alone name)
Tate (Also like this for a boy or girl but can't find a longer name to go with it besides Tatum)

Gabe (I love Gabriel so much, but it's just too popular for me)
Gus (I love Gus but I don't like August and can't think of any other longer names for it)
Wes (LOVE Wes. I do like Wesley but I'm not in love with it)
West (I think West is so cool but I don't like Weston)
Tripp (I don't think I would have the guts the use this as a stand-alone name but I can't think of a longer version)
Remy (Love this nn on both sexes but can't find a longer name)
Tate (Love this for a boy nn also, but the only name I can find that's longer is Tatum, which I prefer on a girl)

    Thanks for any suggestions!
I completely agree with you on Liv! It's one of my favorites, and I might end up using it as a mn, because I wouldn't use Olivia now either. And Gus is my other favorite; August has been growing on me lately, but I still can't seem to get past the fact that it's the name of a month. Augustus just reminds me of either the emperor or Augustus Gloop from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
    Girls: Cordelia, Phoebe, Rose

    My list:

    Girls
    Roxy, but not Roxanne/Roxane etc.
Tillie/Tilly, but preferable not Matilda or Tilda.
    Jenny/Jennie/Gen but not Jennifer
    Billie

    Boys
Zeke, but I can't use Ezekiel or Hezekiah.
Hank, but DH won't allow Henry

    Ideas on others'
    Liv - Livia, Lavinia.
Libby - Lilibet, Lilibeth, Leiba/Leeba (both said lee-ba, a Yiddish name meaning dear/beloved, feminine of Leib). Historically, it was originally a nickname for Isabel, via Ibby. Nobody uses it that way anymore as far as I know.
Pip - Penelope? I've heard that usage before, makes at least as much sense as Posy, Penny, Poppy which I've also heard for Penelope. There's Philippa, which I'm assuming you've decided against?
