Polish boy name
My husband would like to name our soon to be born son Joseph Edmund after himself and his father but i would like a more unusual name. I think Casimir Joseph sounds nice with our surname and gives a nod to my husband's polish heritage. I love a Cas as a nickname (pronounced) Kaz. Do you think the is weird or too strange of a name?

I don't think it's too weird. I've seen it around the site before and I swear I've read it in a book but I don't know what book >.<
I think it's easily pronounced and sounds good with Joseph and Cas is cool nickname.http://angelslittleowl.wordpress.com/

I like Casimir Joseph! Cas is a cool nn, too. I met a Casimir once who went by Casey. I think it'd be a lovely nod to both your husband's Polish history and your husband and his father, since it includes their first name!
Personally, I find juniors, IIIs, IVs, etc. a lot more hassle than it's worth. I mean, Joseph Edmund is a great name and if I had to pass down a full name to a child of mine, I actually wouldn't mind it with Joseph Edmund, lol, but I live in a house with a John, II, and a John, III, and it's just so confusing. Which John is which? When people call, they often mean my dad, but sometimes my brother will say yeah, of course he's John, because he is, but the telephone call is really not for him, and when I answer the phone I always have to ask which John they're looking for, lol. It's just an unnecessary hassle, imo, and I have heard horror stories about how credit ratings for the two Johns, or Roberts, or Richards, or Christophers, or whatever get mixed up, and the son will have to file for bankruptcy for his father's financial mistakes, getting mail sent to the wrong address years after the son moved out on his own, etc., etc... I just wouldn't want to deal with all of that, lol. And I think it's nice for the son to have the connection to his father, but still have his own identity. Which is why I think Casimir Joseph is great! I love it, actually.
Good luck!Ashley

Joseph Edmund is a fine traditional combo but I find Casimir Joseph a little more interesting. It would be a bold choice but certainly not a weird one. Casimir would be a wonderful way to honor your husband's Polish heritage as well as giving your son his own unique name. I prefer children to have their own name for a first name.
All the best,
Mischa.

Are there Casimirs in your husbands family or do you just like the idea of using a Polish name?
I dont think it's too weird at all, and should be pretty easy for most people to pronounce.
Now I've heard Kazimierz more frequently than Casimir in Poland and that would be tougher to pull off!
If you're looking for other Polish name ideas, you might try reading through a name day calendar (plus its just kind of fun).

Casimir is my husband's top choice for our son. I'm the one who originally suggested it but he has grown to like it even more than I do, mostly because of all the positive feedback he's gotten from all his friends who think it's very cool. It's certainly not going to be as easy to pronounce or spell as Joseph and people will ask you about it more, but that could be part of the fun if you like it. As a nn Caz is so much more interesting than Joe, but not difficult to get used to. I hope you use it and maybe we will too!
