Winston, Winslow and other Wins
Hi there,
I love the nickname Win, and am wondering what you berries think is the best way to get there.
People I talk to like Winston - although for some reason it feels a little wimpy to me (yes, despite the churchill connection! i can't explain it but it feels pointdexterish to me).
I like Winslow, I feel like it is kind of on trend with the "o" ending. It's familiar yet, uncommon - usually a winning combination for me. Yet, people I talk to don't seem to like it, and the write up on nameberry is equally discouraging. Any ideas why? The only thing i don't like about the name is having "slow" in there - but preceded by "win" it can't be that bad.
What are other ways of getting to Win? All I can think of is Wynn, and that just doesn't do it for me.
TIA!

I do prefer Winston... I always think of a big, burly guy that fights for justice and is a bit withdrawn into himself but can still kick butt. Then again, I can only think of Winston from Human Target.

I do like Winslow quite a bit, though--I came across it as a surname in this series I read as a teenager, it was called The House of Winslow and it was pretty much amazing, lol. So I have good associations with it. And I say it WINZ-low, so I don't think the "slow" part would be emphasized, really...
Some others I've come across in a cursory search:
Windsor
Winthrop
Winter
Winton
Windell
Windham
Winchell
Winford
Winoc

I get different images than ashthedreamer for each name. Winston Churchill lead Britain through the dark days of World War II so I get a strong, British gentleman vibe from the name (eg. Keep Calm and Carry On!). Winslow is all about American artist Winslow Homer who painted some lovely landscapes. I like both names but prefer Winston (the "slow" in Winslow kind of bothers me a bit so that's why I relegate it to second spot).
All the best,
Mischa.

I LOVE Winslow. I don't notice the "slow" since I too say WINZ-lo. And I love Winslow Homer and his work, so the name has this natural, nostalgic, Americana feel for me. Winston puts me more in mind of the 1984 character than Churchill, which is probably why I don't care for it.
If you like "win," you could consider names that put it at the end: Edwin, Bowin, Corwin, Aldwin, Gawin, Selwin. I think Winford is all right, too.
