This is just my opinion but the way it played out in your dream sounds exatly like all the worries and superstitions you've been voicing here in this thread so it souns to me like that carried over. We do tend to dream about things that are on our mind a lot, and obviously this is one you've been putting a lot of thought into. Maybe you're overthinking it and you need to take a step back for a moment and take a break from trying to name her. Just see what settles onto her naturally.

I think your dreams are a result of you anxieties. Dreams don't predict the future, but they show you what is on your subconscious.

I also read that you can actually make difficult decisions in a dream, you have to go to bed thinking about the problem and then when you wake up write down everything. Not sure if it works since I have the issue where I can't sleep if something is bothering me.... but you could try that.

Do you guys think Pearl is going to skyrocket in popularity? Nameberry lists it at #814 right now, but I feel like it just got picked up on the radar within the past year or so. You think it will be top 500 or even more popular within the next five to ten years? It did used to be my favorite for a girl youngest child. It is going to explode, isn't it? Even more so than Clover I bet.

Also, is it cruel and unusual punishment to name a child Ursula if they are likely to be chubby? My husband and I both were chubby kids, and while he no longer is heavy I still struggle with my weight. Usually I think the possibility of teasing over a name is overblown, but would naming our daughter the same name as the obese sea witch when she's likely to be heavy at some point give the bullies too much fodder?

I don't think Pearl will sky rocket, same with Clover, mainly because I have NEVER met one.....

As for teasing, there is a great site someone recommended and here's what it says for Ursula: http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect...of_Ursula.html

The site also has a GREAT article for teasing/bullying issues: http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect..._tips/eb10.htm

Also Ursula was the name of Pheobe's sister on Friends, so it's not just connected to The Little Mermaid.

Do you like Artemis or the Italian variation Artemesia? They mean moon goddess and they are associated with an Italian Renaissance woman painter who has a very interesting biography.

It has mild teasing potential if her peer group are familiar with The Little Mermaid, but it's not cruel. Ursula is a beautiful name and I wouldn't want one '80s cartoon character to ruin it for you and your daughter. As I've met a few Ursulas and now know it means bear, the name outside of a Disney context doesn't make me think of the sea witch anymore.

For what it's worth, I always thought Disney used the best names in The Little Mermaid on the "evil witch" characters: Ursula, Vanessa and, in the second one, Morgana. I also like some of the sisters' names, like Adella and Andrina.

My thoughts are Pearl (which has already been discussed here) and Marina.
Mother of three teenagers: (1) Daniel Glen, (2) Timothy Austin, and (3) Rebecca Jane... all middle names honor family... 3rd generation mn Jane. (A second girl would have been Susanna Eve and a third boy, maybe Isaac...)
