Due date approaching, short list getting longer. Please HELP!

    Hi Berries,

Less than two weeks to go and it seems our short list is growing. Our rough criteria is something that is traditional/old fashioned but not popular (ruling out William, Thomas etc) but not too obscure (like Herbert) and I'd love there to be a natural nickname (like our son, Theodore nn Theo).

    Here's what we're deciding between -

    August
    Solomon
    Frederic
    Felix
    Jude

My husband vetoed Arthur, which was one of my favourites. His current pick is Felix but I just don't love it. Seems too popular and trendy. My pick is either August or Solomon.

All comments would be hugely appreciated. Middle name is possibly Jack (wouldn't work for Jude though). Last name is Campton. Our son's name is Theodore Henry.

    Thanks all!
Mum to Theodore Henry and Augustus Jack

I love August Jack with Theodore Henry! Then again, I'm biased. Jack August Cole is on my short list.

    Good luck!

I like Felix and Jude, but they don't really have good nicknames. Solomon (Sol?) is nice, but not a favorite.

Angus (Gus) - I prefer this to August, also Augustine
    Phineas (Phin)
    Dashiell (Dash)
    Calvin (Cal)
    Wesley (Wes)
    Hudson (Huck)
    Lennox (Knox)
    Quentin (Quin)
    Edgar (Ed)
    Zachariah (Zach)
    Ezekiel (Zeke)
    Bennett (Ben)
    Landon (Andy)

Solomon Jack gets my vote. Theodore Henry and Solomon Jack are perfect as brothers.

LOVE Theodore Henry, first of all -- very nice naming job! August Jack is my favorite by far. Love the nn Gus! I LOVE the name Frederic (esp. with nn Freddie), but Frederic Jack seems a little too heavy on the hard "c" sound. Although this is not on your list, I'd like to throw out my son's name for consideration since Theodore and August were the other names on our short list: Samuel. Samuel Jack sounds very nice!

I agree that Frederic Jack has too many hard "c" sounds, and even Felix Jack almost seems like a tongue-twister.

My top pick is Solomon. I love that it means "peace" in Hebrew and it goes well with the meaning of your other son's name ("gift from God"). As for Solomon's nickname, I think Saul or Solo (pronounced "Saul-oh") would be perfect!

    You guys are gems.

Catheyc - Samuel was an option but we've decided it's too popular here in Australia. Samuel Jack is a fabulous name! Thanks for your comments on Theodore Henry, Theo really suits him!

agirlinred - Solomon Jack would work well with Theodore Henry. I just don't know if we are brave enough and it does feel like a big name for a little boy. I'm certainly giving it serious thought.

kala_way - if we use August we'd nn him either Gus or Augie. Wesley and Quentin have been on my list but my husband knocked them off.

ashthedreamer and dantea - I do have a soft spot for August Jack. I just have some convincing to do with my husband!

    Have you considered Sullivan?

I think it fits your criteria well, has the great nickname Sully, and brothers Theodore and Sullivan (Theo and Sully) work perfectly together.
