If I had a friend named Astrid, I'd call her Trid, Tridie, Trudie.

What about just "A" for a nn?

I think you could pull off calling her Ace for short and that's pretty cute!

I know it isn't entirely a follow on from Astrid. But if it was me, her nickname would be Star.

One of my Swedish friends named Astrid has always been called Sassa and Sassan, I absolutely adore Swedish nicknames
A nickname that has been commonly used for Astrid here in Denmark is Asta. I prefer that name standing on it's own though.

Ash isn't that much of a stretch- it occaisonally sounds like Ash-trid if you say it fast. Atti, Astra and Asta also might work, though I agree with pp that Astrid probably won't need a nickname. Whatever you do, stay away from the nn Assie! Donkey/butt alert.

How about 'Star'? I call my Agnes 'Lamb' so a nn doesn't have to be a shortening. Having said that we have to accept once they go to school we have no control whatsoever over the nicknames their peers will pick...
