    Sable: What do you think?

And is it too much of a stretch as a nickname for Sarah?

Hmm...not sure I like this very much. It sounds really masculine and alot like 'stable' to me. If you want to use it as a nn, why not just use Sable. It is much less popular and I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be another Sable in the class, where there might be another Sarah.

I don't think it makes any sense as a nickname for Sarah. They're the same length, and they share no similar sounds except for the 'S'.

And honestly, I don't like Sable, but I don't like word names in general.

Sabella is similar and much prettier.
I knew someone with a cat named Sable and there was a female wrestler with the name (probably her stage name though).
It just doesn't appeal to me.

Interesting. I may have found a -bella name I like! I'm not crazy about Isabella and its many forms, but Sabella reminds me of Sable also.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I didn't know about the wrestler and hadn't made connection to the palm tree or "stable."

As for using it as a nickname for Sarah, I was wondering if anyone thought it seemed plausible because it sounds like Sadie (which is a traditional nickname for Sarah that, like Sable, has the same number of letters and syllables as Sarah).
