The poll gave me a surprise result with Bianca coming up trumps and Marika losing badly.

The pronunciation for Marika is Mar reek ah, is that how people are saying it? I ask that because someone said it sounded like America which did surprise me.

    More feedback would be interesting.

I voted for Marika (Ma-REE-ka) and Liesel. I like the idea of the name Sabina, but I agree that "Sabine" has a negative association, at least for me. Even if the women weren't raped per se, all most people (including me) remember is the title "The Rape of the Sabine Women."

I went to school with sisters named Bianca and Lucia and have always loved both names. I love Blanca too. My cousin Rob married an Austrian girl named Sabine and they have a son, Maximilian Thomas....And I have always loved the Scandinavian name Linnea. I really don't like Heidi at all; went to school with WAY too many Heidis. I prefer Adele/Adela. Marika -- there are lovelier versions of Mary and its attributes than this. And I've always preferred Elisabeth to Liesel.

Rawr! On my phone and clicked "enter" before I meant to =(

My favorites are Linnea and Sabine (though I agree with a pp and prefer the Sabina spelling). I also have a soft spot for Liesel (though I prefer the original) because of Liesl from "The Sound of Music." I could get behind any of the childrens' names in that story :3

And in that vein, I think the reason I loathe Heidi as much as I do is because I hated that book!

I have always loved Liesel. Would have chosen it for my daughter if hubby would have agreed.

I LOVE Liesel. It's a great alternate to Elizabeth. It's also the name of the main character in The Book Thief , an excellent read.

My only very tiny aversion to it is that it rhymes with Weasel. Otherwise, love it.
