Help me find the perfect name! (long list)
I love names that you don't hear every day. Our little boy is expected in October and the only name we can come up with is *Layton.
I used to really dislike this name, but I am starting to come to like it because it's simply less heard than others we had considered such as Samuel and Caleb. Most people argue that "classic" names are better, and I usually agree, but have come to like more unusual ones now that we are actually naming a real baby.
So, what do you think of this list in case we do not use Layton? Can you help me find a good middle ground between cool/unusual/trendy and stuffy/boring/expected.?
Names I like....
Abbott
Adlai
Adler
Aidric
Alden
August
Blaine
Caedmon
Calix
Clark
Cooper
Corbin
Daniel
Dean
Edgar
Egan
Grant
Harlan
Layton
Leon
Porter
Samuel
Sebastian
Silas
Simon
Soren
Theodore
Tiernan
Waylon

Abbott - I like, different but not too out there, nn Abe
Adler - I'd prefer Alder
Aidric - I don't like the Aid beginning, Aldric? I like that Rick could be a nn
Alden - meh, Holden?
August - this one sounds feminine to me, though I know it's well loved and I like Gus!
Blaine - I'm not fond of this--gives me a Blank feel
Caedmon - wow, I really like this! I'm surprised because it's not my style, but you could use Cade or Damon
Calix - this is a little Star Trek to me
Clark - this is definitely one that's rare but 'normal'. It's not my favorite but it's nice
Cooper - I've never liked this as a fn, what about Casper or Calvin
Corbin - I've always like this one, though it's a bit on the different side nn Cory
Daniel - if you don't want traditional I'd steer away from this, it's about as plain and normal as you can get
Dean - not a bad choice. Has the Aiden vibe but more manly and unique.
Edgar - very traditional but uncommon, it's okay
Egan - too like Eager to me, I prefer Ethan
Grant - I like this one, it's rather simple
Harlan - I like this one, nn Harry or Harley
Layton - I don't really like this one
Leon - I prefer Leo, Leon feels a bit weak to me
Porter - again, not fond of surnames
Samuel - I like, very traditional but not super common, I love Sam
Sebastian - okay, very specialized in my mind. I can't imagine a blond country boy with this name, but it's nice enough
Silas - I love Silas! Unique but traditional! Titus? Jude?
Simon - not fond.
Soren - bit too Lord of the Rings for me
Theodore - love Theo
Tiernan - sorry, bit too weird for me, Kieran?
Waylon - meh, don't like

Thank you for the suggestions. I had chosen Blaine as the middle name if we go with Layton. There is no significance to it other than being the name my husband will not give up on. It doesn't really bother me that it's used for girls too, as I have seen it spelled Leighton more often in that case, but I see your point.
His other favorite was Waylon, which is why it was on the list, but I am afraid it sounds too much like a "wailing wolf" since our surname is pron. like wolf. I think this one is definitely off the table. Does Waylon Wolf sounds bizarre?
As for the others, I LOVE LOVE LOVE August but again with "wolf" is it too wordy?
Leo is the same, wouldn't want to sound silly with Leo (lion) wolf, although I do love that name too.
We just seem to run into a lot of trouble in finding the perfect one. Corbin was another one we couldn't agree on although I love it, as well as Blaine. We also agree on Samuel, but I don't care for Sam or Sammy nicknames. I keep coming back to Layton to be done with trying to name him! I really like Layton Blaine, BUT I am bothered that we get a thumbs down on the name Layton all the time, even though I am coming to like it. What does it make you think of? Does it just give a bad vibe or do you think it's one of those names that will become popular and so people assume it's very trendy?

I like Layton Blaine. Do you like Peyton?
I wouldn't worry too much about Leighton. Most pronounce it lee-ton thanks to the Ashleigh/Bayleigh/Kayleigh trend
My faves from the list: Abbott, August, Cooper, and Porter
Leo Wolf or Theo Wolf are cute. And for a boy, "lion wolf" is a pretty awesome name.
Shea * Ashley * Jade * Azure * Shiah * Greer * Blaise * Pallas
Lotus * Tallulah * Noor * Fox * Jasper * Linden * Arden * Adair
