    Artemis

    Okay, so I know that Artemis was a goddess and therefore female, but the name seems more masculine to me. The reason is most likely because I have only ever known of two (fictional) people named Artemis, and both were male: Artemis Gordon from Wild Wild West and Artemis Fowl from the children's boom series, which I loved when I was younger. If you search the name on here, it comes up in blue and shows the boy info for it above the girl info.

    Do you see Artemis on a boy or girl?

    Artemis reminds me of the goddess and she has always been my favorite. My name is the roman equivalent, Diana, so Artemis has always been a favorite girl's name. However, I can't name my child that because it's too close to my name, it's also a rare name and I would be afraid of her getting teased for it. But I defiantly see it as a girl's name and have no idea why so many male characters are name Artemis.... What was wrong with Apollo???

    Artemis Pebdani is an actress.

    I like it on both

    The original name is Artemas, follower of Artemis. Blame Artemis Fowl for the confusion. Artemas and Artemus are the boy spellings. The character from Wild Wild West is Artemus Gordon

    Artemis = girl (female deity)
    Artemas = boy (male saint)
    All the best,

    I know a boy whose middle name is Artemas, so it could be a boy to me. However there is also the goddess so I could see it equally on either. The fact that I know an Artemas makes it lean more towards boy for me with the A spelling, with an I, I would assume it was a female name.

    I also pronounce them slightly differently, if that makes sense. Artemas I pronounce more like AR-tem-uss whereas Artemis I pronounce like AR-tem-iss. Very slightly different.

    The spelling Artemus is suppose to be for a boy (or Artemas) and Artemis for a girl. I love Artemis on a boy 2 because of many fictional boys I've found -- Artemus Gordon, Artemis Fowl, Artemis Entreri...

    but I wouldn't want to make the Goddess Artemis angry >.<

    I think it works fine on either so I didn't vote. Artemus boy, Artemis girl (with nn Artie)

    I grew up with an Artemis-- nn Artie. In my mind, it's a classy name with a cute nn for a girl.

    Thanks to everyone who replied! I didn't realize that the character's name from Wild Wild West was spelled Artemus, but even so, when I look at any of the spellings (Artemis/Artemus/Artemas) I still get the same pronunciation in my head: "Ar-tem-iss." I really like the name, and although most people voted that it was more of a girl name to them, I still see it on a boy first, but now I'm more open to the idea of it on a girl. Does anyone think it could be considered unisex? I guess I should have put that option on my poll!
