Busting out, amongst other things, my horticultural Latin, which I don't usually get to use for names outside of sci-fi stories I write as my husband takes a dim view of them.

Also some gemstones but not Ruby or Pearl and some random nature nouns because, well, it's my post.

Cleome. It's a spider-lily. Cleo too close to Clover though?
    Emerald
Kalmia. Mountain laurel. You could call her Kally.
Tamarix. It's a pink flowering small tree/large shrub. It's very pretty. Tammy, etc.
Amarantha - It's a flower and it means immortal and it's not charting anywhere at all.
    Opal
Zephirine - it means "west wind" and its one of my favourite, nearly thornless, climbing rose variaties. It is a Z though.
Viola - Violets, pansies, johnny-jump-ups are all violas. Also pleasant musical connotations and nobody seems to like this name even though there's many Violets about.
Iolantha - pronounced yo-lan-thuh, it's a more archaic form of Yolanda, and it means "violet" as in the flower.
Rosemary - Probably my favourite herbal name, edging out Saffron.
    Ixora - West Indian Jasmine
    Esmeralda - means Emerald.
Kestrel, as in the bird. Not nearly as popular as Wren, Lark, etc.
    Peridot
Tamar - Hebrew for date-palm. Biblical, but underused.
Jessamine - an archaic form of the name Jasmine and to my mind the prettiest of all of them, with various Jessie/Jess/Min/Minnie nicknames.
Hedera - the Latin name for Ivy. Not poison ivy, English ivy that grows on cottages, etc. Heddie is cute, IMO.
Laetitia - not a plant, but Latin reminds me of it. It's archaic, but nice, and uncommon.
Tillandsia - Air plant. That odd ghostly beauty that lives on (almost) nothing. Tilly is a nickname but I find Tillandsia much cuter than Matilda.

I should probably show myself out by now. I have more but I feel I've weirded up your thread?

I've only got one "weird" name that I've always loved but would never use... Rhapsody. I picture a little girl with this name to be cute, spunky, independent, and doesn't take any crap from anyone.
Proud mama of Erika Michelle & Alexa Leanna
    Future baby possibilities:
    Aria Claire * Ariana Elysia
Cameron Blake * Elijah Jacob * Ashton Lucas
