WOW guys, you really are producing! Thanks so much! Just realized I'm going to be glued to my computer chair for hours if I reply to every single name, so I'm just going to just reply to the ones I think stick out for me:
Clio - I like the sound of it but it seems like a nn, Cleopatra is cool but I don't know that it's my fave
Blanche - Like it a lot in theory, especially the Golden Girls character, but the sound isn't that great to my ear
Ambrosia - on my list because I like the meaning, but Ambrose is a dude's name
Circe and Melisande - I like Circe for the Greek mythology connection and Cersei and Melisandre are characters from the Song of Ice and Fire books which I'm currently reading, which is cool; think I might add Circe
November - like "ber" month name names but wouldn't use one
Midnight - cool but boyish?
Ondine - I like the watery sound of it, but not oomphy enough
Veronique - cool but '80s sounding
Roxanne - this was the first name I remember being my favorite name, but does not work AT ALL with my last name
Zelda - Love but have a "Z" and this is even closer to my Z's name than Zinnia; if he'd had a twin sister maybe we would have named her this!
Ursula - love, it's on my list, I even love the dark association of the seawitch, but the Disney dorkiness and my husband's disapproval is holding me back
Bluebell - very cool, but Blue is so trendy, as is the -bell ending
Clementine - what's a good nn? And too much interest on this site about this name! (interest/discussions on this site are how I figure Beatrix and Luna are getting trendy btw, but I think I might add Luna anyway)
Enid - love, loved the character in Ghost World SO much, but it's close to my oldest son Eli's name
Mamie - cool in theory but I wouldn't use it
Fuchsia - also would love to hear this on a kid, but don't love the sound for my own kid
Hyacinth - cool and I like the flower but in Greek mythology, Hyacinth is a dude
Jonquil - like in theory but Jon makes it boyish to me even though I know it's a girl's name
Magnolia - like a lot but it's my friend's dog's name, and I think it's getting trendy based on this site!
Halcyon - cool but not girly enough
Coral - like the imagery, but not out-there enough
Hibiscus - like but not the sound of it
Lotus - same as Hibiscus
Forsythia - love the flowers, like the way it looks spelled out, but the way it sounds is too vowel flowy trendy for me, and it would make more sense on an early spring baby
Lupine - sounds a little masculine
Garnet and Peridot - love the imagery, the sounds of them aren't feminine enough
Ember - love the imagery and the name, but too close to Amber for me
Calliope - used to be my favorite in college, but Callie is the nn and I dislike that a lot
Cassiopea - Cassie, not a good nn
Andromeda - cool sounding for sure, but "andro" makes me think of male hormones
Calamint - like the mint ending, like Araminta, but not the Cal beginning
Thanks so much for these, guys, I hope other people looking for "weird" names find this list and get a lot of inspiration! I'll keep you all posted!
