i'm sorry to just jump in here, but i haven't read the whole thread. i just wanted to throw out one of the "out there" names on my list that DH vetoed. (i also had marigold on my list, which DH also vetoed)

    caledonia with the nn calla.

it is the romantic or poetic name for scotland and has some ties to the mythical arthur. i just love it!

    Marigold
    Gardenia
    Frostine
    Luna
    Meadow

Are the only ones on your list I like. The others are too weird and I think the child would end up being teased and hating their name. I think you are being way too picky, maybe it's the pregnancy hormones, but all these names are getting really bizarre. Silverbell, Moonbeam, Starlight? These sound like fairies or names you'd name a fish! Not a person! Also they would not fit in with your sons names. Your sons have pretty normal names compared to the ones for you girl. Why is the girl so different?

Also ALL word names are UNISEX. They don't belong to a gender, they can be used by boys and girls. Some may sound more "feminine" but it's a word, so it can technically go to either gender. If you're trying to avoid unisex, you'll have to pick extremely feminine names like Regina and Emily.

I am extremely curious as to what your husband thinks of these choices as well. I know my fiance' would probably freak if he saw any of these except for Luna.

Also have you tried opening a dictionary? Maybe you'll find a word in there you'll like.....

    How about Lark?

I never told you all three of my sons' names, just the oldest one, Eli. The other two definitely do not have "pretty normal" names, they're definite eyebrow-raisers. I know Silverbell, Moonbeam and Starlight are way too crazy - all three were added from this thread, though! I like fairy-ish names, and I know they're all unisex technically, but there's no way you'd call a boy any of those names.

I'm lucky because my husband rarely vetos anything and likes more unusual names. Sometimes it bugs me I don't get more feedback from him, but I guess better that than "no way, that's too crazy!"

I agree, I'm a fan of quite a few obscure names but even I can see that there's huge teasing potential in the likes of Honeysuckle and Starlight. I would completely avoid them as first names and use in the middle name position.

You say you have sons, I'm curious to know what the naming process was like with them. Was your criteria as strict then?

Lucy Primrose, Alice Juliette, Rose Charlotte, Madeline Sophie, Lillian Faye, Ivy Elena, Amélie Winter.
Mae Seraphina nn Maisy, Phoebe Luna, Annabella Violet, Kate Susannah.

Oh yes, my criteria with my sons drove my family members crazy! I wanted them to all sound very different, too, so after Eli I didn't want to use any long "I" sounds, even though a lot of the names that sound the best to me have a long "I" in them (like Lilac, which would be beautiful but no more "Lie" sounds). With the other two, I had a boy's name each time that I thought I'd use, but then I found some random strong objection to it and had to discard it and anxiously start from scratch. With my second son it was Arlo, which I'm very very glad I didn't use because I see it's getting used more, by boys and girls, as are the similar sounding Harlow and Marlo, which are just for girls. With the third son, I LOVED the name Axel, then I read some article about the top ten baby naming trends, and it hit two (ubermasculinity and the letter "X"), so I tossed that one too and I found something I love a lot more. So you see, whenever I find some weird objection to a name and feel like I can't use it, it ends up being a good thing in the long run.

I agree that Starlight and Honeysuckle are no good and that I can't use them (didn't you see my objections ), they're just staying on my list for the feeling they have. Starlight is sparkly and Honeysuckle is lush and verdant and sweet-smelling. Those are two of my favorite qualities in a girl's name.

If you're interested in space names, since it seems like a few of the names listed are space related, you might want to check out this long list of names of satellites: http://planet4589.org/space/misc/names.html

Here's also a list of minor planets: http://www.minorplanetcenter.net/iau/lists/MPNames.html

those would all be unique and out there.....

Although I wouldn't use many of the names mentioned on this thread, I've found it really fun and challenging. I like that you have a different style that makes me search all sorts of things

I'm a bit nervous to post here, but I found some weird words! :3

Lemniscate - the graph of infinity
    Azurea - sky blue
    Chrysoleucus - gold and white
    Violacens - light purple

Also, Aurelia means golden, and I know that it might have too many vowels for you, but it would honor your mother.

I also was thinking that maybe you could create your own name? Auramaris is a combination of aura, meaning gold, and mare, meaning sea (the name Mary means "bitter sea"). So Auramaris translates to "sea of gold," which I thought could be sweet?

I love hearing your opinion on all these names! I hope we can eventually help you find 'The One' :3
