Thoughts on Aurelie
Aurelie is the newest name hubby and I are considering. We both prefer the pronunciation ora-lie and would like to spell it that way, but are put off by the obvious "orally" jokes. Hubby is more concerned about this than I am. I really really prefer the nn Ora to Aura. If we spelled it Aurelie, do you think it's going to be a stretch to get it to be pronounced OR-AH-lee over Aw-rah-lee?

I think most people would see it and then pronounce it aw-rah-lee or aw-reh-lee. And I can imagine that during high school and college she'd probably get teased abbout her name after they were corrected. Maybe you could use an alternative like Amelie or Aurora, which have similar sounds to Aurelie but are spelled phonetically and have less teasing potential.

Aurelie is beautiful! I'm not a native English speaker so I don't know how people will pronounce it though. If you go with Aurelie, I think you should carefully pick a middle name she could go by, should she decide that she doesn't like it, due to teasing etc. At the same time, people could get teased for almost anything, no matter which name they have. A similar suggestion would be Ophelie, which I also like a lot. Good luck!

I love Aurelie. Personally, I pronounce it AW-reh-lee, but I think the difference between that and Or-a-lee is like the difference between pronouncing Lauren LOR-en or LAWR-en. I would really advise against spelling it Oralie. I do prefer the original Aurelie pronunciation but I think you could get away with yours and keep that spelling.

I absolutely adore Aurelie! I think it's fabulous and so French chic. I would use the traditional French pronunciation, personally (which is oh-ray-lee, I believe? Someone correct me if I'm wrong?), but I think you could get away with aw-rah-lee/or-ah-lee. I definitely wouldn't suggest spelling it Oralie/Oralee--I think that would be too much obvious teasing.
I think you could use Aura or Ora or even Ari (my personal favorite!) for Aurelie, no problem.

I'm sorry to say, I agree with flick. It still SOUNDS the same, I don't think the spelling will lessen any potential "oral" jokes or teasing in later years. It certainly LOOKS pretty written out though.
