    Boy name dilemma?! HELP!!

My husband and I really love the name Angus. Problem is our last name is Robertson and in Australia (where we live) there are a chain of book stores called, you guessed it... Angus & Robertson Book Stores. My husband sees no problem with this coincidence i on the other hand am not so sure. Id hate for us to knowingly put our unborn child in the firing line for potential teasing.

What do you think? am I over reacting? Or is this justification to rule out the name Angus?

Your thoughts would be very much appreciated!

Angus is handsome, but if there's a book store chain called Angus & Robertson, I don't think I would do it personally. It would be a bit like Barnes Noble here, and I can't really imagine that going over very well. Do you not have the angus beef association over there? I'm guessing not, haha, it's a very strong association to most Americans, but it's never seemed to affect the popularity of Angus in Australia. What about Angus appeals to you? If it's the nn Gus, I think you could do something like August or Gustav...

    Good luck!

A book store is hardly basis for ridicule. Angus is a handsome name (Ash took the word right out of my mouth, it's the word I think of immediately!) and I wouldn't rule it out because of a coincidence. Now if Angus and Robertson were a chain store that sold sex toys I'd change my opinion.

Nobody shies away from using the more literal literary names, from actual books, so why shun names from a book store?

While I love the name Angus, I don't think it works with Robertson (I'm a fellow Aussie so I get your hesitation). Are there other options to get to the NN Gus? The other thing to bare in mind is that Angus and Robertson is (I think) on the verge of going bust, so it might not be a concern by the time your little boy hits school.

    How about Fergus Robertson?

Angus and Robertson was owned by Borders, so has now gone under. They no longer have any stores and sell online only. So I think the connection is not as obvious as it once was when they had a store in every shopping centre. By the time your son is in school they may noteven exist online anymore.

It would seem a shame not to use the name you love due to this connection, so if it's your absolute favourite I'd say why not?

I'd go for it as a pp said, it's not a bad connection. Angus is a brilliant name.

I agree with bluejuniper above...By the time your son is school age, this bookstore might be a thing of the past. Also, as others have said, a bookstore association is pretty cool.
