    Brother for Erin

I'm looking for some ideas on a boy's name to go with Erin. Last name is an O' irish name. Some preference to stick with an irish/celtic name but it is not a requirement. We are not looking for something off the boat though, generally names most people will have heard of and can spell without knowing Gaelic. While not looking for something super popular, we are still looking for names that will generally be familiar and good for all phases of life. Not particularly concerned with the middle name at the moment.

    Thanks for any ideas.

Mischa covered all my suggestions so I'll just throw out my favorites:

    Declan
Shaun (I prefer this spelling but Sean or Shawn are acceptable too)
    Shane
    Aiden
    Ryan or Riley
    Connor
    Keegan (or Keagan)
    Collin (or Colin)
    Cole

    Welcome to Nameberry!

    My recommendation is ...

    Erin [and] Ryan

... a sibset comprised of two-syllable Irish names with a similar feel and popularity.

Thanks for the suggestions. Forgot to mention we are not really into the whole surname thing. Also would avoid things like Aiden and the derivitives. Of the suggested ones we like:

Ryan - Taken in the family but far enough removed that it might not be a problem, but not sure if it will make the short list or not.

Some names I kind of like but the wife isn't hot on:
    Connor
    Kevin
    Ian
Brendan - like this one but can't seem to turn the wife

Names like Teague, Niall, Rowan, Lachlan, Cormac, etc are all a little too out there for me.

Wife likes Liam an Declan. To me Liam is ok but seems like it's going to be all over the place between Liam+William. Declan is getting popular but I hadn't heard of it and a few other people I mentioned it too haven't either. Not sure if it's too far out there for me and not sure there would be any men named Declan.

Outside of the celtic arena my wife likes these, I'm not super hot on any of them.
    Luke
    Adam
    Alexander
Daniel - both kind of like it, neither of us are too hot on 'Dan' but might still go here
    Andrew
Jack (any varient) - think we both like the idea, but probably taken

Nathan - we both kind of like, but know at least 3 kids my girls age named Nate/Nathan in my area and that's only between a gym class and one or two trips to the pool.

Just for some more context. We still haven't reallly found one that resonates well with us both.

Oh, I like Finn and Gavin. What does your wife think of the new suggestions?

She had suggested Gavin early on as a possibility but didn't feel too strongly about it. I could never really get into it. I suppose it's still a possibility but neither of us are gung ho on it but might be something we can come around to. Might be able to come around to Declan too.

Finn is nice but we just had one added to the (extended) family.

Jack we both like but have some close friends with a daughter the same age as ours and also expecting a son about the same time. Last I heard they were going for a nickname "Jack" name, so we don't want to use the same. If something changes though we might use it.

I like Quinn on its own but I don't think the wife would. I'm not sure I'd use it though because it's being used a lot on girls now and I'd like him to have a stronger name. Same deal with something like Casey or Riley. I like them, doubt the wife would, but have also been tossed to the girls regardless of how strong they are/were.

She won't really even look at something like Reid so Callum & Rhys I'm sure would be a no-go (I'm not sure I'd use them either, but nice suggestions). Callum is a little out there for me and Rhys is not my style.

Things like Grady,Lorcan,Trevor,Tavish,Fergus,Ronan,Pierce,Farley,Griffin, etc all stray too outside the "norm" or are just not our style.

    Thanks all for the suggestions.

Instantly, Liam popped into my mind. Then Ian. And then Timothy. Not sure why on any of them, but I think all 3 sound lovely with Erin. Looks like you've had many excellent suggestions! Good luck!
