Alastair vs. Alasdair and nn Alex?

I have about 5 weeks left till our son arrives so I'm getting a little panicked. DH and I have not agreed on many names so far. My top choice is Liam and his is Kirk. Needless to say, our naming styles are completely different. I have liked Alastair (or Alasdair) for awhile but not crazy about the nn Al. But maybe the nn Alex would work since it is the Scottish form of Alexander? I realize we can call him anything we want but is Alex a stretch? Which spelling Alastair vs. Alasdair do you prefer? When I see Alasdair I send to say "dare" at the end even though I think they are both pronounced the same.

I like Alastair spelling the best. I also like Liam though. Not a such a fan of Kirk. I think you could use the nickname Alex. Best wishes on you son's birth. We are four weeks away from delivery, so I understand the panic of finding the right name soon.

I prefer Alastair. (really, I prefer the Greek Alastor) I pronounce Alasdair as al-as-dare too, but idk if that's right. For Alasdair, I would nn him Dare ^_^

I think Alex could work, but most people won't get it, and will think his name is Alexander.

    Great name choice!
