    Advice on our current list

    Hi all,

We are expecting baby #2 in a few months and are having a tough time with names. I'd love to hear your thoughts on our current list (in no particular order). My current favorites are Neve, Marguerite, and Georgina, and DH likes Neve, Liv, and Bronwyn. I like Liv, but our son is named Lars and I don't know if I like the combination of the two.

Feel free to suggest middles, too, if anything jumps out at you. We haven't even gotten to that point yet. Thanks so much!

    Neve
    Genevieve (nn Neve)
    Liv
    Marguerite
    Georgina
    Ada
    Magdalene
    Bronwyn
    Ingrid

Welcome to Nameberry and congrats on your pregnancy. Here are my thoughts on your list and some other suggestions.

Neve - This name would work with the one-syllable Lars but it's not related to the Irish Niamh (neev). It's the Dutch surname of actress Neve Campbell's mother and it's pronounced "nehv". Neve Georgina would be pretty!

Genevieve (nn Neve) - It's a little long next to Lars and French instead of Scandinavian but I love this name !

Liv - It's Scandinavian and pretty but I don't know if another "L" initial is the way to go! Are you planning on having anymore children? What about Liv Bronwyn?

Marguerite - I love this version of Margaret but it's long and French like Genevieve!

Georgina - I love Georgia and Georgiana too! It's attractive but long.

Ada - A vintage gem and it's a good match with Lars. Ada Marguerite or Ada Genevieve would be lovely!

Magdalene - I prefer Madeleine but it has a Germanic feel to it that isn't stylistically very different from Lars. A bit longish?

Bronwyn- This is actually the Welsh MALE spelling. I prefer the female spelling of Bronwen for a girl. It has a strong sound like Lars.

Ingrid - I smiled when I saw this name. Stylewise, this is lovely with Lars. It reminded me of one of my favourite actresses Ingrid Bergman and her third husband Lars Schmidt.

Thanks so much, Mischa! This is so helpful. I am definitely struggling with the sibset- not around name origin, but rather the general feel of the names. I love all of your combinations! We are not planning on having any more children, fyi. We would pronounce Neve (nehv). I read that Bronwen is the traditional female spelling, but we have only met female Bronwyns. We are not committed to either spelling at this point, though I did mention it to DH.

DH vetoed some of the other names that I love on your list- Willa, Maren, Freya, Astrid, Sela, Mae. We may be able to use some of these as middles. I feel like it's a victory that we even have nine names on our current list!

I really like Genevieve with the nn Neve. Neve is a great nn, but I like it less as a given name.
    Marguerite is beautiful!
Georgina is also very pretty and classic.
I like Liv as a nn but not so much as a given name.
Ada, Ingrid, and Bronwyn just don't sound as pretty as some of the other names on your list. Although, Ingrid and Lars sound like a good Scandinavian sib set.
I went to school with a Magdalena who went by Magda. I thought it was such a cool, unusual name.

Since Neve is a favorite for both of you, it sounds like Neve is the winner. What an interesting sister Neve makes to brother Lars. I think Neve Marguerite or Neve Georgina would be lovely.

Thanks, everyone! I also like the suggestion of Neve Marguerite. I also like Wren, but I don't think that my husband would go for it. I think that it could be an interesting middle. Another middle that I haven't broached with him is Plum.

Keep the suggestions coming! I really appreciate the feedback.

    My recommendation is ...

    Lars [Scandinavian]

    [and]

    Ingrid [Norse]

    ... a sibset comprised of Norse/Scandinavian names.

What do you think of Ingrid Kirsten, a Norse/Scandinavian pairing? Would it be permissible to ask Lars' middle name for further inspiration?

Neve - Sounds nicknamey and dated to me
Genevieve (nn Neve) - Love Genevieve and Neve works much better here
Liv - I think it needs more, it just seems unsubstantial, Livia? Lavinia? Olivia?
    Marguerite - beautiful!
Georgina - I prefer just Georgia but still nice
    Ada - Love!
    Magdalene - Adorable!
Bronwyn- So cute, I am not sure it fits on your list though, it seems so modern among all these classics
Ingrid - I like it. I think Ingrid Bronwyn would be absolutely stunning!

I think Liv goes well with Lars. I also like Bronwyn, but it seems a bit of a mouthful compared to Lars, if you are worried about the names going well together. How about Bryn?
