Well I came in to pitch support for Edmund and Alastair but I see they are well covered.

Cyrus has already been mentioned but I do love it. It slightly edges Silas for me (but I do like Silas).

Is Thaddeus an option? I rather like Thaddeus. To me it has all the appeal of Theodore without the comparative popularity, and I like Thad as much as I like Theo and more than Ted.

Lemuel is one of those odd eccentric antiquities I don't think sounds feminine. I am much fonder of it and Kemuel than I am of Samuel. I have known Lemuels IRL it's not just a only-on-Nameberry name, though admittedly at least two of them would be over a hundred now if they were still alive.

Agatha is such a great name, it's hard to pair up something equally unusual-but-heard of, which is a nice balance.

Speaking of classic names that are in infrequent rotation, my sister has just made an impassioned defense of George, which made me reevaluate it slightly, I can't say I had ever pictured George on an infant. I still prefer Gideon, though.

I think that Cedric is a really great name, especially with Agatha. And I don't think that it's "sissy" at all. I also really like the suggestion of Theodore, nn Theo. Some other names that might work are:

    Oliver
    Gregory
    Henry
    Frederick
    Thomas
I'm Erin, a teenaged writer who loves names (and dessert).

Girls names of the moment: Delaney | Eleanor | Georgia | Kate | Lucy
Boys names of the moment: Felix | Harry | Liam | Theo | Tobias

I think Ebenezer would be a good sibling name, definitely not sissy, several derivable nicknames--Eben, Ben, Nez, Benzer. And so not overused.

Thanks so much everyone for your input.

Peppersprout - Louis, George and Arthur are all great names and all used by good friends in the last year or two!

Stripedsocks - Thaddeus doesn't appeal to me as much as Theodore. I like Gideon but the "Gideon Bible" phenomenon (i.e. one in every hotel room we've ever stayed in) has put DH off for life! Cyrus makes me think of Billy-Ray Cyrus sadly and that is a pretty bad association, I do like Silas though. Not sure about Lemuel, will have to sit with that for a couple of days and see if it grows on me.

onomastics - I like Rueben from your list but again another friend just used it on her little boy.

erinlw - I really dislike Cedric, sorry. Henry is up near the top of my list and Oliver is great but SO popular in Australia and the UK as to make it unusable for me. It was no.1 last year (I think) in the UK for example.

Kalaway - I like Oscar from your list, though it is the name of a good friend's dog which may put my DH off.

cdeb - I don't think Dashiell is in the same style as Agatha unfortunately and the nn Dash puts it in the same category as Ace and Jet which just isn't our style.

Thuja - I don't think Ebenezer has cast off its Dickens connections yet, at least not for me and I just couldn't use it with those associations. Ebenezer is also a drug reference to the drug Ecstasy (in the UK anyway) so it's a definite no-go.

Thanks so much everyone! Nothing has really grabbed me and shouted "I'm it!" yet. You have given me some new ideas and helped
me cross a couple of names off the list though which is great.
