    Reports from Hipster-Land...

I live in a very "hipster" city and come across cool names on kids all the time. I thought I would make a thread where we could all share our "hipster sightings" and just generally cool names we come across. Today, I met 2 little boys named Orrin and Waylon, they were brothers around 2 and 4, and little girls named Hazel (around 1) and Wylie (probably 4 or so) I was floored by Wylie...it just screams E. COYOTE to me, on a boy or girl.

I have class with a Wylie. No one ever has thought of Wylie E. Coyote.

Waylon is sweet, in a way. Orrin is NMS. It reminds me of the word oral for some reason. I much prefer Orson.

I only like Wylie as a nickname for Wilder, and then on a boy, but I have a friend whose last name is Whyley and she is sometimes called Whyley because of it, so I could see it on a girl maybe. I've never heard anyone make a Wile E. Coyote comment to her, but I'm sure she's gotten them! It wouldn't really put me off, though, the same way Donald Duck doesn't put me off of Donald.

I went to a school called Wiley, so hearing Wylie doesn't only make me think "E. Coyote" but Wiley will always look more correct to me. I can see Wiley as a first name for a boy.

The coolest (IMO) name I've heard on a kid recently is definitely Sloane.

Orrin is great! I prefer the Oran or Odhran spellings but Orrin is okay too. Wylie is intriguing.

I LOVE Hazel! I asked my fiance about it and he seemed to kinda like it. He said if we named a daughter that he'd call her Hazy.. haha.

I have a few friends I'd consider "hipsterish". One of them has daughters Peyton and Piper. Another has a Delilah, Teddy and Ruby (and his wife has a daughter named Summer I think?). My cousin had a daughter named Violet. Those are the only hipster friends I can think of at the moment!

Friends with many hipsters... I'm "not allowed" to be one though for assorted sins... but I adore Hazel.

Waylon is all Waylon Jennings to me. Not that that's the worst thing, especially in the land of naming after musicians. But a interesting choice.

It was funny actually, when the mom told me his name I said "Oh, as in Jennings?" and she just looked at me like I was crazy. I don't think she had any clue who I was talking about.

I really like Hazel because it's old school and you can get the nn Haze. Also really like Sloane for a girl and also Wylie - reminds me of feminine wiles!
