Agnes is GORGEOUS! I'd probably use it one day, if my future husband liked it

I probably would have said "no way" a few years ago. But a regular at a coffee shop I used to work at was named Agnes. She looked like a supermodel. I am not saying only a supermodel could pull it off, but that I could see it as a name on a young woman now. Nessa would be a cute nickname if needed. Your middle name choices are perfect.

I only like it with the French pronunciation, but I think you'd have a hard time getting people to pronounce it that way if not in a French-speaking country. AGG-ness is just an ugly sound to me, and I normally like 'old-lady' names. That said, I don't hate it or even dislike it (though I think there's a small chance your teenage daughter might hate it, to be honest).

It's not a name that I would probably choose, but I could see meeting a sweet little Agnes and my whole opinion of the name changing. It would be a unique name that everyone would know how to pronounce and how to spell. I think it's a fun choice.

I like Agnes a lot. I don't think that I would use it for personal reasons, but I would love to meet a little Agnes. Then again, I would seriously consider Agatha, which I think it more severe than Agnes is, so I guess that I am solidly on Team Old-Lady-Names. Take my opinion for what it's worth. I mean, I get the horrified looks sometimes about my daughter Beatrix's name, but I also hear from people who love it. I love it no matter what.

It's an interesting name. It's not really my style, and I don't find it pretty, but I tend to like names with softer sounds and a more melodic rhythm. On the other hand, it's a name with great strength, it has a lot of meaning for you, and your combos (both, really) are lovely. I do think it's a bold choice compared with Isabelle and Liliana (which are both more to my taste as well as more commonly digestible), but I tend to think it's beyond conjecture which name a child will or will not appreciate having. I feel like it wasn't too long ago that Matilda was considered an unappealing name, and I could imagine Agnes (while not becoming a Lily or an Emma) coming to seem more at home among little girls/teenagers/young women.

I think I'm coming to agree with this. While I love Agnes and would love to see it used, I'm not sure I should be the one to use it, if that makes sense. I agree that most of my other favorites are much more palatable (even the more vintage Eleanor my sisters cringe at seeing on my list), and I'm just not sure Agnes would fit in. I can't really see any of my other favorites really "going" with Agnes as a sibling, boy or girl, with the exception of possibly Eleanor.
And while I think an Agnes could like her name and while I think Agnes will grow in popularity (just look at the pop culture associations showing up in the past few years... and Agatha, which feels much softer to me, is starting to become a Nameberry favorite, so I can't imagine that the slightly more severe Agnes would be too far behind), I'm not sure I should be the one to test the waters, lol. I'm not particularly daring when it comes to name choices (obviously, lol), and I'm rather shy in real life, anyway, so I'm not sure I can imagine any of my children being big enough to make Agnes a bit glamorous. On top of that, I plan on adopting the majority of my children, and it seems unfair to saddle them with a really old-fashioned, out-there name choice that could make them feel like they're even more of an outcast. Having an uncommon name would be nice, I suppose, but I can't really imagine a risky name choice working very well for any of my children, biological or adopted. I could be wrong, but sticking to Isabelle, Arianne, Olivia, Violet, and Rachel is more "me", anyway.Ashley

I love Agnes, especially with nn Aggie. My grandmother's best friend was "Miss" Agnes, and there was never a classier Southern belle than that lady. Agnes is SO much better than Agatha (which is how some people get to Aggie). You've got the fact that Agnes isn't uber-popular right now going for you. I think it's time to bring it back. Go for it if you like it!!
