WDYT of Peter for a little boy?

Lately I've been thinking about the name Peter and how useable it is. It would be a tribute to my grandfather, godfather and even my aunty (named Peta-Jade) if I were to use it, so it has really special meaning but I'm not sure about how to update it, or even if I would have to..? I want your opinions berries! Is this name too outdated? Are there any nicknames you can think of that aren't Pete or Petey? Or are there any reinventions that could still honour these amazing people in my family?
    All suggestions welcome! Thanks berries

I love Peter for a little boy! He is a wonderful classic, and Peter is a handsome name from babyhood to adulthood. I don't think it is outdated - I think it is ready for a comeback. I cannot think of a nn, however, so I would go with Peter in full.

For a girl, Petra would be beautiful!

I don't think you have to update it! Peter is so handsome and classic- it's fine on its own and not outdated at all. I'm considering it as a boy's MN because it's so lovely

Petra is quite beautiful (and underused) for a girl.

Piers is probably my favourite version for a boy. It is a very old variant. I can't say I like Peter itself. It does have a wealth of international options though.

I absolutely love Peter for a little boy! So classic and charming. Petra, however, I'm not a fan of. It just doesn't have a pretty sound IMO.

Agreed -- Peter is ageless, like Elizabeth and Katherine for girls. It's always going to look good -- on a little boy, on a grown man.

If it has family meaning to you, then I think it's a great choice.

And I'm not sure you even need a nickname -- Peter's not so long! ;-)

Peter is an awesome name. I know a teenaged Peter, and he's awesome, so that may influence my decision! He goes by Pete with his friends, but other people call him Peter. You really can't go wrong. It's classic, familiar, but not popular.

    -best of luck to you!

Love Peter! I agree, it doesn't need updating at all, it's a classic. Several years ago, it was my very favorite, and I would love to see it used again. I would use it myself, except I can't seem to find the perfect combo for it. I do like it as a MN more these days, but it is a great FN, too. There's international variants, too, that might appeal to you, if Peter just doesn't seem modern enough--what about Piers/Pierce, Piero/Pierrot (the former is Italian; the latter is French), Pierre, Pietro, Pieter, etc...

    Good luck!

I love Peter! I might be biased because it's my brother name, but I think it works so well on anybody, any age.
