If this is your first child I would hold onto Miles for a boy. Then if you're only having two, for example, you can use Miles-whatever if the second is also a girl and you know you'll have no more. Otherwise I'd hold it for a boy.

I definitely think using this for a girl right off could put you in an awkward situation, too. If you have this girl, name her Miles-something, then have another girl, you would either A) choose something that doesn't fit with your first daughters anme at all or B) stuck using something else decidedly masculine to even things out. Just tuck it away for a boy OR I would suggest using it in the middle. Anna Miles ___ Sounds more feminine and more like your naming for family than using Miles up front where it will be mistaken for trendy.

    Just my two cents.

PPs all make good points. I really don't like Miles on a girl at all. Could you use it as a middle name? Or as PPs suggested, a feminine version of Miles? Save it for a future boy if you're having more kids?

I think if you like it for a girl and it means a lot to you, then go ahead and use it! People have been using Ryan and Tyler and such names on girls for years! I don't think Miles is anymore masculine then those.

You could have Miles be a first name for a girl, with a feminine sounding middle name, and use something like Millie for a nickname.

Just because other people do something doesn't mean you should.

What flick said. I'll add to that by stating that much like wearing a salad bowl on your head does not make it a hat, putting a <boys' name/word name/yewneek spelling> on a girl does not make it <feminine/a name/literate and interesting>. Delete as applicable.

I can't make any suggestions, because I think it's a terrible idea. Sorry. IMO, there is just no way to put Miles up front, hyphenate it, and make it sound like a nice name for a girl.
