I think this kind of name is kind of hard to pick just yet. There is some truth to the "popular name for a popular girl" theory, BUT there is also some side ways thinking on that. I was an 80's child and some of the popular girls were Megan, Brittney (several) Ashley (several) a couple Amandas and Sarahs. So yeah, they had popular names but most of them were mean... especially the Megan. lol
The nice girls who were also very nice to everyone in my school were Vermill, Shelby, Seely, Amy, Kasie, Carly, Jerica....Amy is the only really popular in that list.
So I think the more popular names like Isabelle, Sophia, Olivia, Emily, Madison, Mia, Abigall, and Ava may end up being mean girls. The only name on the popular top 10 i have a hard time seeing as becoming a mean girl name is Emma and Chloe.
The name i see being a good sweet popular girl name who is a friend to everyone (and not just the in crowd) is Hazel.Wanting to be pregnant.

I'll list all the girls I can remember from highschool who fit your description, but I graduated 11 years ago so the names might not be what you're looking for.
Lindsay
Alice
Vicky (Victoria)
Natalie
Cassandra
Jessica
Cherise
Angie (I think her full name was Angela but she NEVER used it, not once)
Angela (different girl)
I'm sure there's more but I've got no idea where my yearbooks are, doing this from memory! And btw, thanks for making this thread, it made me realize that I'm looking for the exact same type of name, and this has helped a lot!! :-)
Good luck with your name search!Proud mama of Erika Michelle & Alexa Leanna
Future baby possibilities:

There weren't too many girls I can remember who were both popular and nice. Most of the popular sort were quite catty. However, there were a few...
Julie (Julia or Juliet could work as well?)
Hannah
Lauren (maybe Laura or Laurel?)
Bethany
Kelsey
Angela
Brenna
Toni (not short for anything)
That's all I can remember. I graduated not too horribly long ago, so take that as you will. I could see a Nora or a Grace fitting this description, perhaps a Sarah as well.
