Reinventing my Moms name, for the sake of tradition

Here is the thing. My mom's name is Tilly and her grandmother's name was Tillie. My name is Annette and my grandmother's was the same. I do not want to be the first one along the line who breaks the hole naming your kid after your mother train, but I want something new and fresh. Tilly is just weird. I have wrestled with names like Matilda and just Tilda which is popular in Sweden, but I want something even newer and fresher. I am looking for ideas. Thank you.

Ottilie does seems to fit the bill. I say it the German way Oht-till-eeah (my grandmother was Ottilie and German) and I think it's the best ^_^ but in the US you'll get people saying oh-TILL-ee
I also like Tilda by itself (like Tilda Swenton).

    Others:

    Atilia
Bertila -- she could be Berry too ^_^
    Bertilda
    Botilda
    Clotilde
    Domitilla
    Estila
    Etilka
    Nantilde
    Quintilia
    Rutilia
    Shantille
    Tutilina
    Vaetilda

Those are all the Til containing names I could fine ^_^

Tilly is adorable! You've gotten a lot of suggestions, and I'm not sure I could top it, but my only idea was Elisabeth nn Tilly. I know it's a bit of a stretch, but it was the only name remotely close to something I would like to use (nice as Matilda, Ottilie, Clotilda, etc., are, they aren't for me), and it could still keep to your family tradition if you use the nn Tilly.

    Good luck!

You could give her the first name Tilly but call her by her middle name if you can't find any versions of Tilly that you like

I know it's borderline made-up/non-name like, but I read something with a girl named Chantilly once.

You might also want to spell Matilda with an H - Mathilda. Or Matilde/Mathilde.

I think I have settled on Tilliana, kind of like Lillian or Lilliana, but with a T. I would still love to hear suggestions though, and I am all for made up names.
