I Need All The Help I Can Get
I can't decide on a few names for my "Ditchburn" novel. I haven't thought of a proper title for it yet.
The story takes place in varies fictional towns across Canada and U.S.A. It's set in 2015 and focuses on the Ditchburn siblings, a bartender, and a logger.
Main Character:
Is the youngest Ditchburn.
Looks wise, here she is: http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/...nDitchburn.jpg
Her name is Shannon. I don't want to change her name.
Oldest Brother:
Looks Wise: http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/...rDitchburn.jpg
Is protective and calm in a crisis, but you better be a fast runner if you tick him off. He is honest with a deep voice. Is partial to plaid shirts and ice cream is his achilles heel when he’s stressed or needs to think. He uses humor to lighten the mood and hide how dire a situation is. He is kind-hearted and charming with a beautiful smile. He’s on the shy side and is a perfectionist. He is thick-skinned, careful, and prone to injury as he doesn’t feel physical pain.
I'm down to Luke (Luke, Denny, Jimmy, Tim, Wade.
Younger Brother:
Looks wise: http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/...rDitchburn.png
Is short-tempered, wiry, and never backs down from a challenge whether it’s physical or mental. He’s extremely smart, coy, emotional, flawed, needy, and very unlucky, but that is because he is his worst enemy. He drinks a lot and smokes occasionally. He is always chewing on a match stick or toothpick. He was born color blind. When he's faced with a problem, he needs time alone to think while often talking to himself.
I'm down to Wesley "Wes", Connor, Drew.
Shannon's Boyfriend:
Looks wise: http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/...sBoyfriend.jpg
He is soft spoken, a lover not a fighter but if threatened he can defend himself. He is easy-going. He works/runs his deceased father’s logging company. He’s not well educated, but is a hands-on type of guy. He’s a morning person, a tea drinker, and he enjoys hunting and fishing. He’s rarely seen not wearing work boots or a bandana. He's patient, commited, and passionate. He drives a big, black pickup truck, often goes commando, and Gone With The Wind is one of the books on his night side table. He and Shannon were once kicked out of a hotel room because the guest next door phoned in three noise complaints. This is also one of his most embarrassing moments. He is blackened with the guilt of his father’s death. He hasn’t been able to look his mother in the eye since. He blames himself because he was late for work the morning his father died. After his father died, he started to have vivid dreams about the death of complete strangers.
I'm down to Lee Corliss, Lee Sheridan, and Bo Jarvis.
Bartender/Close Family Friend:
Looks wise: http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/...6/BarOwner.jpg
Something tough hides under her sweet exterior. Loves owning a bar because she believes people never open up until they have a few drinks and all the crazy people (like herself) come out to play at night. Believes in love at first sight but she thinks she must have been born blind. Is a vegetarian and she skinny dips. Lives above her bar with her cat Moses. Doesn't trust easily, hates strangers, and the unknown.
I'm down to Meredith Barnes, Marilyn Barnes, Greta Barnes, Evelyn Barnes, Gina Barnes.
Based on description, and what I vision the character to look like, what do you think of the names? I'd love to hear other suggestions also.
Thanks for your time.Last edited by crissy76; June 15th, 2012 at 12:35 PM.

I don't have any children, but I write like crazy and am always looking for names for characters. I think I'm a half decent story teller, a mediocre writer, but horrible at picking names.
Favorites: Ainsley, Michaela, Bree, Everly, Susannah, Aidan, Tristan, James, Jensen, Dalton, Travis

Love all your suggestions.
I love the name Dominic and it's nickname. I'm just not sure if I can use it. Dominic Torretto, Vin Diesel's character in the Fast n Furious movies....I am a HUGE fan. When I think Dom or Dominic all I see is baldness and muscle. LOL
I have to see where the characters go, but the oldest brother and the bartender may end up hooking up. The older brother isn't good with feelings, but there is going to be some tension between them. The bartender is a few years older too, so that will add some tension in there. Thinking of it couples wise, Jimmy and Evelyn (Evie) sound better then Jimmy and Gina.Have a Nice Day

Thanks for responding. Characters are never easy to name. So many factors to consider. I am going to go with Luke for the oldest brother.

One thing to consider with the boyfriend - if you name him Lee Sheridan and he and Shannon get married she would be Shannon Sheridan that is if she changes her name
I personally like Andrew nn Drew
Suggestions for Boyfriend
Henry Weston - im really feeling this last name for him
David Weston
Mark Weston

I can't see Shannon ever getting married, but good point. One never knows where the characters will take the story too. It was dumb of me not to think of that. I like Henry, and I'm feeling Mark too, but I can't use it. I'm not feeling Weston as a last name. My best friends hubby works for a bakery and it's called Weston's Bakery. Ironically, my best bud's hubby's name is Mark. LOL That is just weird that you came up with that name combo. LOL
I'm also feeling Jamie and Brian for the boyfriend.Last edited by crissy76; June 16th, 2012 at 08:39 PM.
