I really like the name Patrick, but my husband talked me out of it, because we don't like the nickname Pat. I think people would automatically shorten it to Pat and that would bother me. Are you okay with Pat? Something to consider.

I went to school with a girl named Rory, so I picture that name more on a girl.

As another Aussie, here are my thoughts -

Alexander - far to common in Australia.
Dominic - for me it's too different from Agatha (which I adore)
Edward - I'm quite fond of this, but he'd inevitably be called Ned which I am not a fan of.
Evan - Again, it doesn't seem to fit with Agatha, to upbeat or something.
Gabriel - not really my style and seems a bit out of place for you too!
Henry - fabulous name, my son's MN. But I do fear it has become far too popular.
Lawrence - this is ok, but I'm not keen on the NN options.
Patrick - I don't really like it, both Pat and Paddy are IMO a little wishy-washy.
Rory - this has been on my short list but it seems like a NN rather than a proper name.
Solomon - this may well be the front runner for our second baby, so I am biased. Great NN options (Sol, pronounced soul or Solly) but it's not great with Agatha. Like you, I'm not sure we are brave enough to use it.
Theodore - well as this is my son's name I LOVE it! It originally felt like a big name for a little boy, but he is almost always called Theo which really suits him. Also, we get so many positive comments about his name. It's great that he can be Theo now and latter if he wants a more formal name he can go by Theodore.

Good luck with your decision making!

I think Rory would be great! Rory Austin is really nice. I think since Agatha is such a strong, feminine name, Rory seems 'obviously boy' next to it, which I love.

Msbethie I don’t like Pat either. Paddy is a possibility but that’s just okay rather than something we really like. Am hoping we could just stick to Patrick TBH. I have a friend called Andrew who ONLY gets Andrew and never Andy or Drew so it is possible!

Thanks cbuxton I am really interested in the comments I am getting about names “going” with Agatha – I might have to start another post! Your son’s name - Theodore Henry – is gorgeous! Thanks for saying you love Agatha too.

Lucia I am beginning to see Rory as a middle name rather than a fn but I’m glad you like it. :-)
