Thanks so much for your input everyone, it is really helpful!

aussiesteph - it’s funny you mention the varying styles. With girls’ names our style is very clearly vintage and I thought our boys’ style was “classic but not too common” (with the obvious exception of Alexander which is mega popular) but it obviously doesn’t come across that way and maybe that is highlighting that we are a bit “all over the place” with our boy names.

With the nn thing, Agatha occasionally gets Aggie - from us and from friends - but we always introduce her as Agatha and so far people have been really respectful of that.

Rin - we love Alexander but worry it’s too popular, I love Gabriel, husband likes it a lot but isn’t sure he loves it, we love the idea of Solomon but not sure if we’re brave enough to use it. For some reason we are much more bold with our girl names – hence Agatha.

Kyemsma – Theodore is really growing on us, so it could be a late winner. I like how it sounds with Agatha and also the nn Theo and Teddy.

Jeainslie - Husband isn’t keen on Hugo unfortunately but I agree it goes perfectly with Austin!

Jennipea – I think you might be right about Rory being too nicknamey. Wonder if there is a longer name which has Rory as a nn?

Claireelise (the only two names my parents considered for me before choosing Rachel!) - I’m so glad you like Lawrence, it’s one I’m having to work on a bit with my husband, he’s worried about the LL thing with our last name.

Klcalder - I don’t mind that both children could have AA names if that’s how it works out.

Ace – you and others make a good point Solomon and Evan not going with Austin as a mn and I agree, will have to come up with a new mn for those.

It’s so hard, Agatha just jumped into my head and grabbed both of us immediately and we were hoping the same might happen with a boys’ name but it hasn’t yet.

Definitely Henry, Lawrence, or Theodore. They all sound fine with Austin.

    Agatha and Henry
    Agatha and Lawrence
    Agatha and Theodore

My first choice would be Theodore. I like the repeating "th" sound with Agatha. Agatha and Theodore would be adorable!
    Lucía Noemí (2008)
    Sebastián Tomás (2010)
    Inés Magdalena (2013)
We are done having babies, but other names I love are: Eloísa Pilar, Elena Beatriz, Agustín Ulises, and Félix Ignacio

Thanks aguafresca, I hadn't thought about the repeating "th" sound with Agatha and Theodore, I like that.

Thanks Smash - LOL at the chipmunk thing, I definitely hadn't thought of that. Maybe if it's twins I can call them Alvin and Theodore :-D

The berry response to Henry has convinced my husband it's a real contender so a big THANK YOU from me for that! Turns out he knew a kid named Henry when he was little and the kid was "posh and not very nice" so he's been projecting that!

He is so interested in what you guys have to say and has asked me to report on everyone's least favorite from our list so if you have time, please could you also say which name you like the LEAST? Thanks!

ETA Ooh kyemsma I was just wondering if Rory could work as a nn for Theodore but I think it could stretch to Lawrence too - Laurie and Rory are quite close in sound.

Thank you ilovenames. We have now dropped Dominic from our list which I'm fine about but DH says he really can't see us using Solomon "unless we had loads of children" *sob!*

    Additionally, you might consider ...

    01. Agatha [and] Barnabas

    [or]

    02. Agatha [and] Maximos

    [or]

    03. Agatha [and] Thaddeus

    ... a sibset comprised of three-syllable, clunky-cool-vintage Greek names.

[Or, from your list, Agatha and Theodore.]

I love your list. Especially Patrick. Class. Gorgeous, underused. I also adore Edward. He was a good king. Evan, Rory, and Henry I like. Lawrence is fine and underused. Dominic is a family name for me, I like the history and meaning and think it is ok. Theodore is also fine. Solomon, is interesting but maybe I myself wouldn´t use because it maybe tries to hard, kwim? On the other hand, if you can pull it off...The only dislike I have is Alexander. I know it´s bad and I can´t justify it, but all those Alex names got sooo overused in the 80´s and 90´s, something about it annoys me.
