JOYFUL TIDINGS!!!
This evening my husband and I sat down with the iPad and he went to Nameberry to look around a bit, as I had suggested. I asked him what he *disliked* mainly about Cora, and he said it was too short, too blunt. So I said I liked most of the longer versions, and we went to the "Cora" page to see if there were any longer versions he liked.
And he found (and is very happy with!)...
Corinna Melisande!!!
We can still call her Cora for short, but he wanted a slightly longer-sounding name to introduce her by and be her official name. I guess that fixes everything (except the same initial thing, but eh, Charles starts with a "Ch" sound and Corinna with a "Kuh" sound, so I think it's okay).
I am very happy now.
Speculative fiction writer and mother to my handsome baby boy, Charles Theophilus (born 3/11) and sweet Corinna Melisande - Cora for short (born 8/12). I love: boy names with a blend of studious and ancient tones; sweet, intelligent girl names with a touch of fairy-tale innocence.

Thank you, everyone!
I will try to remember to post in the birth announcement section this time - I completely forgot with my son!

Thank you, all!
It's amazing the transformation this name change has done for my husband's excitement about the baby. Before, he might occasionally put his hand on my stomach to feel her move (usually at my direction because she was moving like nuts!). But that was about it. He rarely called her by name...partly, though, that was because he had let the name slip in public twice and thought it was safer to stick to saying "the new kid".
But he never seemed to shower affection on my baby bump the way he did with our first child. I thought it was just because we know she's a girl and he wasn't excited about having a girl - but I think in a large part it was because I had picked the name all on my own (I just got the "okay" from him) and he had no hand in it, and he didn't actually like it much. Since renaming her Corinna, he's referred to her by name, kissed my belly, talked to her, and seemed MUCH more excited about her! It's amazing the difference his loving the name can make! If I had realized his indifference was due to simply not liking her name, we would have had this conversation a loooooong time ago. I don't think either of us quite understood it, though.

I never found out what we were having because it was way more exciting being the one to find out what the sex of the baby was myself!!! Therefore, we had to choose a boy name and a girl name so it was easier to wait until the end to name the baby.
Cora is pretty! What about:
Kora
Carah
