Marigold is already sweet, so adding Whimsy pushes it over into saccharine-land for me; Goldie Whimsy also does sound kinda funny. I do think Marigold (Mare, Goldie, etc) can hold her own with Pilot and Dex (really great sibset!), but I'd personally want a middle with some feistiness or strength instead. Marigold Osley Bee (I do think Osley feels a bit masculine, but I like how it punches up the middle spot)? Marigold Lorna Bell(e)? Or to keep Whimsy (which is sweet!), what about Marigold Lorna Whimsy? I think an addition between the two would detract from the Anne-Geddes-sweetness and help add some oomf.
I think Lorna Boheme or Lorna Bellamy would make a BEAUTIFUL combination. Lorna is very unusual, has an uncommon literary tie, and (to me) bridges that gap between Pilot and Dexter. I like Boheme, Bellamy, and Bee better than Pea as a middle (its homonym turns me off).
Also here are some suggestions for firsts or middles....
Anise
Sorcha
Annona (the genus of a variety of tree - gets Nona and Nonie as nn)
Acacia
Mandoline
Bay
Olea
Thora
Linnet
Coriander (long but pretty)
Poesie or Poesy
Etna
Poplar
Noelia
Minuet
Junia (nn June)
Bettina
Verbena (nn Vera)
Winola (nn Winnie or Nola)
Thandie
Orla
Amoret
Azure
Meli (honey in Greek)
Tamsin
Lisette
Heron
Swift or Swiftlet (like the birds)
Magpie

I think the reason that I love Marigold Whimsy so much is because of it's sugary sweetness. Same reason I love Bee, Plum, Pea, Bird, etc as middle names.
I just discocered Milu (Mee-Loo) in search of a czech word. Spelled Milu it means Pere David, which is a species of deer. But also my DH's name is David. Spelled Miluj, it means love. it many other languages Milu/Miluj means love, caress, dear and other swwet words. I thought of it as a first name but Milu Miller sounds too rhymey. Right? But it may work as a middle name which then would most likely be spelled Miluj.
From your lists I like-
Poesy- was my absolute favorite number 1 name at one point but now I've watched a little girl name PoesynnPoe grow up and its really hard for me to see it as any other baby.
Azure-I've been playing with this in my head.
Magpie- I love this. i don't like the nn Maggie though. There are also a lot of Maggie's in my DH's family. Do you think people will call her Maggie?
Lilac- I like this but not as much as Lorna.
(I can't use Pearl. It's my neice's middle name.)
Lolly1019 suggested Whimsy as a first name.. Do you think that could work possibly?
Here is my list now.
First names: (or middles)
Marigold
Lorna
Bluebird
Plum
Sojourn
Goldie

Marigold - very cute, has a lot of nickname potential, which helps when you have a very unique name.
Lorna - very cute! I love this. So vintage and quirky.
Bluebird - I can't see this working in the real world. Imagine putting this on a resume or being a DR? Dr. Bluebird? Oo
Plum -I think this only works in the middle.
Sojourn - this isn't terrible, not a personal favorite, but not bad. This reminded me of Solace, which you may like.
Goldie - needs a full name for sure.
Minnow - no. This is a fish, not a name for a child, imagine some of the "fish" jokes she will get? You may consider Manon, similar pronunciation, less fish association.
Clover - cute, I love the nickname Chloe, I think it's more streamlined and while a little "hippy", definitely translates better than some of the others on your list.
Milu - cute for a nickname, not as a full name, I don't see it aging well or sounding professional. Have you considered Lilou?
Magpie - Please don't do this to your child. I know it sound's "cute" and the images it conjures and whimsical and fun, but can you honestly see someone being able to function as an adult with a name like Magpie?
Oslie - this sounds very awkward and made up. Ottilie, maybe?
Any of the middle names work fine. Whimsy as a first name is silly - I'm sorry, I know it's cute, I see the appeal, but if someone came in for an interview and their name was Whimsy, I would honestly giggle. Posey is slightly better, but is still best as a nickname.
I can see that you aren't into the "mainstream" and I get that, I'm really not either, but your child WILL grow up and be an adult and giving them a name like Magpie or Whimsy is just doing them a disservice. YOU may be artsy or whatever, but what if your child is not? It's not fair to force your lifestyle choices on them in terms of something that will last through adulthood. Your other two children's names really aren't so bad - but Pilot and Dexter (I actually adore Dexter), seem very normal compared to Magpie or Bluebird.
I think Lorna is really, honestly your best bet. Even something like Lorna Whimsy Miluj would be really cute and won't effect your childs adulthood and you still get your whimsical, fun name.

Well, goodness.
How about Wilhelmina nn Whimsy?
I think, though that might be too many syllables for you.
I really do like Lorna Whimsy, it seems so fresh, soft and charming.
Milu is adorable and reminds me a bit of The Fifth Element.
I will say that, the person makes the name not the name the person. And while Whim may never work as a stand alone name, Whimsy has a romantic, playful quality (it's basic definition), that a lot of names lack. Blythe, Honor, Haven, and Primerose both work, why not Whimsy?Last edited by lolly1019; June 13th, 2012 at 02:04 PM.

Honor or Blythe have been used as names in one form or another for a very long time, they have roots and substance. Primrose, too. The difference with Whimsy is that it sounds childish. Honor sounds strong, nothing "cutesy" about it. Blythe is the same - it's sturdy. Even Primrose, one that's definitely frill and over the top - has strong syllables to it. Whimsy has "whim" which sounds airy and "cute" and the word whim means "Sudden desire or change of mind" which doesn't give off a very professional air at all and it ends in a "zee"sound, which is cute, but add it to whim and the whole thing sound's like a child, not something that will age well. It doesn't have a backbone or substance to it.
