Red face If you met an Ebony

I am a Teen called Ebony. Just wondering what an American would think if they met an Ebony. I am an Australian and from English Scottish heritage. Here it is a common colour and plant name and no different to being called Ruby or Ivy. I am born in the late nineties a bit after its first rise in popularity and it again rose in the 2000's and is falling again.

Ha! Okay, I won't comment because I am Australian. I just jumped at the title because I wanted to get in and say how much I love the name Ebony. It's been one of my favourites since I was a teenager.

I love the name Ebony. In America, it's mainly an African-American name which was most popular at No# 551 in the year 2000 and has dropped considerably since that time (it was No# 960 in 2005).
    All the best,
    Mischa.

It's very common i the African American community here - but I think it's a pretty name - for any ethnicity.

I find it charming. It seems like it would especially suit a woman with black or very dark hair. But maybe not, as Russell (for example) is a popular name and of course not every Russell is a redhead.

Sable is another good name for a woman with black hair.

Since I think of the black wood ebony when I hear the name, I tend to think it's suited to a dark-haired or dark-skinned girl. It has a pretty sound. Interestingly, my twelve-year-old sister likes it as a boy's name. I told her it was used for girls, and she thought that was weird. I'm not sure where she found the name or why she thinks it's masculine, but I do tend to think that nature names are more "fair game" for unisex use than other names. And Eben and Ebenezer, which contain similar sounds (is that partly why you chose your username? ), are male names.
But I do think Ebony is pretty, and I'm glad you love your name.

I'm in Australia too, and I know that you're looking for opinions from US berries, but I have a second cousin named Ebony and I think it's gorgeous, really suits her, and wihle it isn't uncommon it is still unique (though I am in my 20's, I'm not sure if it is more popular in the generation after mine). Glad to hear that you love your name!
