Please help! thinking of changing my new born's daughters name
Dear friends,
need some sound advice! my spouse and i didnt get a chance to pick a name for our dd. But at the nick of the time at the hospital before leaving since we had to pick a name we chose the name Tamanna. Should be pronouced as Taman-na. Its not Ta-manna. she is as of 2 days old.
Now we both are so unsure! Today we heard the nurse at pediatrician's office say it and it just didnt sound right. We are afraid that she might have to explain at each step of the way of her life how to pronounce her name.
As a mom, i myself have a hard name and at every step of any process i keep having to explain people how to pronounce it, it bugs me, but i've accepted it. But now i feel i rushed into it, we are in split mind about how to deal with this. Can somebody throw some insight and advice me how to deal with this confusion. Feel so sad

Well its not too late to change it, I'm sure you and your DH have a nice list of names, Tamanna Is unusual, but it is very pretty too!
How about these names that are sort of similar;

Jamillia
Jasmine
Tammy
I'm sure you'll find one that you, your partner and your daughter will love <3

What about Tamara? Very similar, yet people would know how to spell it. Other suggestions:
Tamsin
Tamryn
Good luck! There are so many names out there and in the end if you and your partner are not happy with the name you chose change it! Its up to you. Your daughter will grow up using whatever name you choose for her and she won't remember being called a different name as a new born. I would do what feels right for you, who cares what others might say or think. All the best!Mummy to one gorgeous little girl & pregnant with number two. Searching for the perfect name

I strongly recommend changing it now! If it is day 2 and you are iffy and don't like the way others are saying it your feelings with only get stronger as you hear it more often. Also, I hate to say it but I really, really DO not like that name. Seeing it as an outsider the MAN bit really sticks out.

I liked the suggestion of Tamsin. It is close to her name, yet will be pronounced correctly straight away. I too have a name that is frequently said incorrectly and made sure none of my children had that issue when I chose their names.
I also think Tabitha has a similar feel and would be easy to say and spell.
If you are unsure, I would say change it now. My DS has an unusual name which he hated most of his childhood- in hindsight I would change it to something a little more known.
Hannah has the same 'N' sounds too- and one of those names everyone will say and spell correctly.Current favourite boy names: Cormac Flynn Nathaniel (Nate) Oliver Alexander Liam Hugo Isaac Leo

Tamanna is a bit hard to pronounce. However, I think Tamara is a lovely substitute.

Warmest congratulations and welcome to Nameberry!
My belief is, it's better to change your daughter's name than to live with regret. That she is two days old is ideal; it's definitely not too late.
If Sanskrit Indian names like Tamanna are your preference, my recommendation is to select another one like it that's [seemingly] easy to pronounce in English-as-a-first-language countries.
For example ...
01. Amara = Sanskrit Indian for "eternal"
02. Opal = Sanskrit Indian for "precious gem"
03. Shanti = Sanskrit Indian for "peace, calm"
04. Shasta = Sanskrit Indian for "praised, commended"
05. Sitara = Sanskrit Indian for "starlight"
06. Sohalia = Sanskrit Indian for "moon glow"
[07. Tamanna = Sanskrit Indian for "desire"]
08. Tasia = Sanskrit Indian for "light"
