Can this stand on its own?
Posey?
I absolutely love it, but none of the longer variants. I am one of those insane people that utterly refuses to use a nn over a given name, with a few select exceptions, I mean, I wouldn't even use Kate on its own as a FN, it would be short for Catherine or Katerina/Ekaterina or whatever, and Kate is very respectable to me. I just always prefer a longer option with the nn, partly to give my child options in the future, and partly because I never had a nn and I always would have liked one.
Posey just "feels" very nicknamey to me, which is why I tried to make Josephine, Primrose, or Sophia work for a while, but none of them stuck. They just don't work for me, and since Posey is a flower, much like Violet or Azalea (which are used all on their own), could it stand alone? Or is it more like Daisy or Poppy, which can stand on their own, but it's generally not encouraged, as they feel sort of nicknamey?
At this point, I'm thinking about dropping Posey altogether, or using it as a MN only, so this is my last ditch effort.
Is it usable on its own? Or should I scrap it?
Thanks!Ashley

I've tried to get behind Rose names, but I just can't stand Rose (or Rosie). They're too sugary sweet and overdone for me, personally... I even wanted to love Rose since it's my sister's birth flower (and her favorite flower period), but I don't know. I feel like I'd be using a name I really don't want to. If I could find a "P" name I really loved, I might consider Rose as a second MN for her, and use Posey, but there are really no "P" names I like that I can imagine using. Piper's probably the closest, but I don't really feel like it fits in with my other favorites.
Do you think Posy would age better? Since that's how the flower is spelled? I honestly prefer the Posey spelling, but I might consider Posy if the general consensus was that it aged better than Posey does.Ashley

I don't blame you, all I hear is "roe" as in fish eggs, but they seem so beloved I had to bring them up. Peronel, maybe?

How about Persephone as a "full" name? Or Promise?

I think Posey could be used on its own, but it probably shouldn't. Compared to the other names in your sig, Posey/Posy sounds quite nicknamey and juvenile.
For me, Posey is less like Violet, Azalea, Daisy, and Poppy and more like Blossom, Bloom, or Petal. I've always thought those "generic flower" names make adorable nicknames for other flower names, especially those that lack intuitive nicknames. Something like Violet nn Posey or Iris nn Posey would be so cute.

No more Sophia, I don't think! I mean, I really like it, but if I'm going to use a popular name, I'm going to love it a LOT, despite its popularity, like I do with Olivia, Isabelle, Charlotte, and Lily/Liliana. But with Sophia, I really don't. Sophia's popularity just detracts from its appeal to me, which just proves to me that it's not the one. I've always liked Sophia, but I haven't always loved it, and I'm not sure I can really see me with a Sophia, even if I called her Posey 100% of the time.

I would never use Penelope, lol. I know it's a Berry favorite, and a favorite of a lot of people in general, and it's a nice name, but it's just so overdone imo and I don't find it all that pretty, unfortunately. I did love the ending of The Odyssey, with Odysseus's and Penelope's reunion, and how he rescues her from all the suitors and stuff, but I feel weird about using a name from another religion besides my own. Oh, well, haha.Ashley
