I think Oliver Stonewall is a more memorable combo than Oliver McKane. Some many girls are being given Mc/Mac names that they've lost any appeal for me. Good luck!
    All the best,

I voted for McKane, in case you think my vote counts more than once. Which I guess depends on whether it's you or your wife who prefers McKane! I simply think Stonewall is too evocative of both the negative word and the Confederate general, though perhaps that's what you're going for.

misch- I'm not big on Mc names for boys or girls. I just don't like going back and forth between upper and lower case.

molly- I can't stand politicians, but I guess it pays good. I think he would go by Ollie most of the time.

Pam- sometimes when I say Oliver, it seems a little "soft," Stonewall toughens him up. Also, my thinking is if he is on the fringe of making it big in sports or anything else, he can pull out the name Stonewall and it might be enough to push him to the next level. Do you think Tiger Woods would be as popular if his name was Bob Woods?

Stonewall is also very evocative of a major event in gay history, the Stonewall riots. It's one thing if it's a family name or something but if it's not, it might seem like you're honoring that event. Which is totally cool if you are. Just know that's one thing that might come to mind.

orangeyouglad - being from the south (North Carolina) that is not the first thing that comes to mind for me. Thanks for the info though.

orangeyouglad - I was still thinking on your comments. Those riots are not what I'm trying to convey, not that I'm prejudice, but I don't want them to think of gay riots when they hear his name. I've run the name Stonewall by quite a few people around here, and thankfully not one of them has even hinted at those riots, everyone around here automatically thinks on Stonewall Jackson. By the way, I do not have a Stonewall in my family tree that I can find, but I am in Robert E. Lee's bloodline!

I voted Oliver Stonewall because it sounded the most interesting/unexpected. Although after voting I did realise that it reminded me a bit of Oliver Cromwell... it's not really a problem at all (especially if you aren't English. Here it's a household name, but I'm assuming it isn't anywhere else) or even a very negative association at all, but I thought I'd mention it.

thanks for the response pixiewoo. Maybe I didn't make my point clear. I'm just saying that a very unique name won't hurt if you are trying to make it to the next level in whatever in life. If you have 2 people that are EQUAL in whatever we want it to be, Stonewall Ervin and John Smith, I'm figuring that Stonewall makes it over John to the next level just by name sake.

On a totally different note, from some reason the first thing that came to mind when I read the name Steel was porno star.
