    Arthel

Disclaimer: I'm not expecting... just a name lover!

I'm a huge fan of 'Doc' Watson. For those that don't know, he is a bluegrass and blues singer and awesome guitar picker who passed away this past week. Anyway, I got to thinking about his given name, Arthel. I can't find anything about this name and was wondering if anybody had any information about it. Also, what is your general opinion of this name?

I haven't heard of this singer, but Doc Watson reminds me of Sherlock Holmes :P

Anyway... from what I've read, Arthel is a variation of Arthur, just like Danilo is a variation of Daniel, so I assume it has the same meaning. I much prefer Arthur though. Arthel kind of sounds like a witch name :/

Oh, how sad. I didn't know he had died. Hubs and I listen to him on Sunday mornings sometimes. I'm not fond of Arthel though I think Watson could work as a tribute name in the middle spot.

I love Doc Watson. Good memories...

I don't love his first name, though. I've got to be honest. I sounds like a smoosh of Arthur and Ethel. I do love his surname, though... It would be a dashing middle.

Thanks for the replies! It is quite sad for the bluegrass world... first Earl Scruggs, now Doc Watson. But their music lives on!

Oh my, a witch name! Seems that the general opinion of Arthel is not good. Watson isn't really my style either... but maybe I can work in his middle name, Lane. It's more my pace. Thanks again for responding!
