Tex Oliver - Can we get away with this?

I am writing for opinions on the name Tex - especially when paired with Oliver. I love this name so much, and can just imagine it on my little boy. Thoughts?

I think Tex is verrry cowboyish, and very cute. However, it does feel like a nickname for something longer. Would you consider Texas? Not sure I like that unless you are from Texas and it has meaning for you. The more I think about it, Tex is nice on its own....
However, I don't like it with Oliver. Oliver, to me, is the opposite of cowboyish. I would look for more Western-sounding names to pair with it. I think Oliver sounds like a classy little English boy.

I find it to be stylistically jarring like the previous poster. Also the flow is problematic for me. The X and the O sort of run together for me to sound like one long name: Texoliver. But I do like both names individually.

I've always loved Oliver, and while Tex is certainly interesting, I just don't think it goes with Oliver. Also, Tex is very short...I'm picturing in on resumes, wedding invitations etc and in my mind "Tex" is a little weird. I have NO CLUE what it could be a short form of, but if you could use it as a nickname, I think it would be ADORABLE!

I prefer Dex Oliver or Dexton Oliver? Something like that. Tex seems incomplete for some reason.

I just think of Big Tex or Tex Mex...not a name I like. Maybe as a nickname for something else, like a name that starts with a TE? It would be a stretch, but it would probably sound better on applications and sound better with Oliver (which I love)

    Terrance
    Tekeshi
    Tellan
    Terach
    Terrick
    Tesher (this one means gift)
    Tevin

I think any of those sounds great with Oliver and Tex is not too much of a stretch since they all have the TEH sound at the beginning.

Love Oliver but Tex is one of those names that should only be a nickname. Being originally from Texas, I just can't imagine someone actually being named Tex.

As an Aussie I can imagine an American with a drawl called Tex... "Howdy, my name's Tex!" Actually it would be cool! But if you're not a Southern accent type, maybe not. I like it with Oliver because Oliver is so classic it balances the spunk of Tex.

Unless you're from Texas you're probably going to get flack from most Texans for naming your baby this, it reminds me of Big Tex which is a huge cowboy they put up at the Texas State Fair every year. Another thing is that Texans incorporate the word "Tex" into a lot of words or brands, "Texsun" )company nearby), "TexSan" heart hospital, TexStar (band) Texadelphia (sandwhich chain), Texaco gas, and I see some teasing potential with "Tex Mex".

No offense but I mentioned this to my husband who thinks it's trolling :/ he can be very traditional with names but I guess to some people it's very farfetched to use as a formal name.

Thanks for all the input! I'm from Australia, and think it could work better here than the states mostly because we don't automatically make the association with Texas. But I'm listening when you all say it might work better as a nickname - I just for the life of me find a name I love as much that could be a possible contender! I'll keep all your advice in mind! Thanks
