I have seen many people suggest Fiona as a girls name on naming boards. It is not my style to begin with, but it just screams Shrek to me, so even if I liked it before, it would be out now.

    This.

Also Bella has been ruined to me from Twilight.
Ditto with Edward, though I was never really a fan to begin with.

Ursula is a huge no no to me due to The Little Mermaid.

I would use Hermione in a heartbeat but too much Harry Potter association, same with Harry, Luna, Ginevra(Ginny)-I could go on forever. Plus now apparently the name Hermione is associated with being a know-it-all

I love the name Luna and I don't think Harry Potter ruined it for me. I still plan on using. However, Hermione has a stronger association with the movie than does Luna. Also Luna is gaining in popularity.

I refuse to use Isabella/Isabelle/Isabel because of Twilight, it was my fiance's favorite till Twilight so that ruined it for him.

Not just movies, but other pieces of pop-culture:

The Muppets/Sesame Street: Elmo, Kermit, Bert, Ernie, etc. (I actually LOVE the names Elmo and Kermit, if they weren't so tied to these characters.)
The Simpsons: Homer, Marge, Bart, etc.
All in the Family: Edith, Archie, Maude (I love Edith and Maude, but DH said all he can think of is Edith Bunker and "then there's Maude").

And other shows, books, films, etc. that have names that are especially tied to one character.

    Ariel- "The Little Mermaid"
Milo and Otis- "Milo and Otis", of course

Nothing against anyone who uses them anyway- I say good for you! I just can't get past the movies.

The only movie that has truly ruined a viable name for me is The Omen. I can't bring myself to use Damien. Otherwise, I think it's silly to let a movie ruin a perfectly good name.
