Unique but not "yoo-neek"
"It's just a name, what's the big deal?" I'm sure many of you have heard this from your partner before. My husband said this two weeks ago so I decided to start calling the baby a ridiculous name to get the point (what's the big deal?) across. For two weeks I've been referring to the baby as "Scabby Jones". I've said it at least five times a day and he cringes every time. So...I think he gets it now. My apologies for offending anyone out there with the name "Scabby Jones".

Now at least we're in this name hunt together. We're looking for a name that is closer to the uncommon side but nothing with a crazy spelling. We’re having trouble agreeing. Surprise.
Here are some ideas of names I/he likes. Any suggestions for other names would be wonderful! Thank you in advance!
GIRLS:
March
Saffron
Berlin
Holiday
Veda - I can’t get him to stop saying “Darth Veda.” Arrrgh.
Marlowe
Beryl
Thora
Elona (Ee-LO-nah) This is his pick. I’m not a fan. Especially since our last name is Polish and complicated. Although, it would make a great name for an Olympic ice skater.
Names I like but are too common:
Vivienne
Norah
Sage - I truly love this but my mother is a teacher and she’s seen this quite a bit.
Violet
Willa
Rowan
NNs I like but would need longer names for them:
Leni
June/Junie (sadly, we can’t use Juniper)
Alfie
Ande (pronounced “Ann-dee”)
BOYS:
Forest
Ames
Conan
Lionel
Sigmund
Maine
Orson
Julius
Dash
Truman - This is his pick. It’s too stuffy for me.
Names I like but are too common:
Theodore/Theo
River
Simon
Sebastian
Leo
As you can see, we're all over the place. Thanks again for your help!

I like Marlow(e) a lot. I've known one girl with the name and it fit her well.
Ande is also really nice, and anything that has *and in it would work.
Alesandra
Andromeda
Cassandra
Coriander
Lysandra
Miranda
For Leni you could use
Avilene
Elenora
Gwendolene
Malena
Jillean
Magdalena
Noelene
For boys I like Dash (Dashiell)
If you like Theo what about Thad (Thaddeus)

I've never met a Sage, but it probably varies in locations.
I like Marlow(e) and Thora the best for girls and Conan and Forest (though I knew a few of these growing up - all nice guys) for boys.
Girls: Scout, Harlow, Marley, Letitia, Montana, Juliana (or Guiliana), Zara, Gretchen, Aurelia
Boys: Phineas, Abner, Vincent, Tennessee, Sawyer, Jasper, Josiah, Xavier

This is not meant to come off as mean. Sorry for awkward wording: I know you want a unique name, but you could try opening your mind to the "too common" ones. I don't know any Viviennes, Sages, Wilas, Roawns, Theodores, Rivers, or Leos.
Some suggestions for girls: Mirabelle, Sunday, Juno, Adair, Augusta, Annika, Taryn, Philippa, Nola
Boys: Soren, Darius, Rivers (I like this better than River), Rory, Melchior, Felix, Roman, Bryon
Again, hope I didn't come off as rude! Very cool names, I love Forest (prefer spelling Forrest), Theodore, Willa, Leo and SimonGeorgia Elizabeth
Clara Penelope, Madeline Juliet, Lily Sailor, Annabelle Cosette, Bridget Dorothy, Charlotte Rose, Paige Virginia & Jude Gabriel, Henry Theodore, Rory Desmond, Luke Holden, Christian Alex, Aaron Quincy, Cody William

I had to laugh at your Scabby Jones story. =)
March - love, but I think it is equally suited for a boy, and I also like the idea of Marcheline nn March
Saffron - can't get past the "Ron" part, Ronnie could be a nn, but it is a great name
Berlin - nah, don't like this one...maybe Linden?
Holiday - better than Berlin but still not my cup o tea
Veda - love the sound of Veda, the history
Marlowe - my least fav
Beryl - great name, but dated
Thora - love
Elona - not a fan
Names I like but are too common:
Vivienne - great middle name option
Norah - not a fan
Sage - love
Violet - like
Willa - dislike
Rowan - seems better on a boy
NNs I like but would need longer names for them:
Leni - Magdalena? Milena? Alena? Elena? Lenia?
June/Junie (sadly, we can’t use Juniper) - Junia, Juna, Juno
Alfie - Alfreda
Ande - Andromeda, Andrina, Andrea
BOYS:
Forest - love!
Ames - not a fan
Conan - the barbarian
Lionel - Richie
Sigmund - Freud
Maine - Coon
Orson - Wells
Julius - Caesar
Dash - The Incredibles. Dashiell?
Truman - Harry
sorry, not trying to be mean, just the first thing that came to mind with each name
Names I like but are too common:
Theodore/Theo - Theo is cute, maybe you'd like Thaddeus?
River - not a fan
Simon - ok
Sebastian - love
Leo - okLast edited by cristinamariane; June 1st, 2012 at 03:49 AM.

March Veda Marlowe (2 mn's not mandatory, the names came together and flowed out so i HAD to share)
why can't we use Juniper? and if you really canNOT, would you feel it appropriate to use Junie and
let it stand alone? i mean, Julie does.
Junie Willa. Elona Saffron. Norah Sage. Junie Saffron = fav, i Love the flow on this one!
as for having Leni for a nn for a gurl, how would you feel about using Lennox for a gurl? i LOVE that name. word names are becoming so Beloved! i
believe it is a long time coming, but now that they're all here, they're here to stay. Lennox i believe is a brand of crystal. yes it's more boy-ish, but
Lennox Saffron nn Leni is verrrry hard to resist
im thrilled and impressed that you would use Maine for a boy's name! i lived on Beals Island Maine 12 yrs ago and have been trying to find a way to get up there for EVER!!
Maine Truman, certainly lightens up Truie
Leo River. Leo Simon. Dash Sebastian (a funny nn dash sebast....ok not funny
oh this is my fav so far; Dash Truman. Maine Dash. Julius Maine. Leo Julius. Maine Forest...mmm pretty.
plz keep us posted, i feel as if i was too dreamy to be of any help. my final favs are; Dash Truman & Maine Forest. as well as
Junie Saffron. i wonder... do you think Junie Saffron Sage is too much? how do you feel about the "2 mn-(middle name)" idea? i
think it works fro some, if you're last name is short, like Dash, for instance, then it works. plus, these days even Nameberry has a
blog about using 2 mn's
i really want you both to feel confident about Junie being as strong as Julie, in terms of using it as a
NON-nn. esPECIALLY if she's due ANY time soon, after all! June is right around the corner...like today
all of my best wishes to you!
