@Jeska- like it or not, people are judged by their names. I think it's mostly subconscious, but when you have a resume sitting on the table and nothing to go on but that and a name, you probably will draw unfair conclusions. Someone may guess Aoife O'Neill's ancestry or assume that River's parents were hippies. It's completely unfair, but people do judge by names, just as they judge by appearances. Even if it wasn't an issue in the workplace (or Calypso decided on a more name-fitting career like musician) there's nothing to stop people from commenting on the strangeness of someone's name, which I think is kind of a burden, especially for someone who's a bit more shy and doesn't like being in the spotlight. The first thing I did when my cousin told me she went to school with a Sassafras was ask where her name came from, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
This article cites some studies, but I've read many like it:

Daisy451, I know that. I've read the chapter in Freakonomics, etc. I just disagree that Calypso is the kind of name that would attract negative judgment of that sort.
And honestly, I think it's completely exaggerated on this site. Sure, people are going to do a double-take at Sassafras or Trixiebelle or Calypso, but I don't know what kind of jobs we're talking about here. I'm a lawyer and if I'm helping recruit for our firm, a candidate's first name would give me pause for all of about a second. A name hints at the socioeconomic background/tastes of the parents, that's about all.
