    D-Minor?

as a nickname for Daniel. He is being named after his mother Danielle. She is a musician and a dancer. Does it sound too cheesy?

Is this even a real post? What is wrong with Dan or Danny or just Daniel? I will never understand the need for all these NNs. Most of the time your child will go by their full name!

No child in our family ever goes by their full name. Dani is already taken by his mother and Dan just sounds incomplete.

I can see appeal but it is really not a NN because it is actually longer than Daniel. Minor just seems a little snobbish to me. D-minor might stick for a few years but it probably won't last, eventually it will just become D. It is going to get pretty confusing though because Danielle and Daniel are awfully similar even though it is a way to honor his mom it just seems a bit much.

As a nn between mommy and Daniel, I think it's quite cute, actually. Coming from a pianist, I actually really love it! I wouldn't expect others to use it, and I would just call him Daniel in public, but as a special nn from mom to son, why not? It's adorable.

Thanks for the responses. My sister and her husband are dead set on using Daniel so the family has been scrambling to find a nickname. Her husband came up with D-minor and while our family likes it, I wanted to get some outside responses.

To be honest it did make me cringe. But families can have all sorts of funny nns for each other, so if it's just within the family, then I think it would be fine.

Its fine, but your over thinking it. Apart from the obvious ones (in your case Dan or Danny), nicknames should be spontaneous terms of affection, not planned in advance. If its anything to you, I have a cousin called Daniel who goes by "Big D" because he weighed 10.5 pounds at birth I don't understand this need for nicknames like this. Good luck!
