I firstly want to say to the OP xoxo that I love you. I love Sherlock Holmes (esp. the books and the BBC special, and Robert Downey Jr doesn't hurt either
, not to mention House/Hugh Laurie ♥♥♥ ). I have a friend with the surname Sherlock and a friend with the surname Holmes (the former a female, the latter a male) and I want them to get married just so they can have the hyphenated surname!!
SO, back on topic (sorry!!), I think Holmes is a more wearable first name. You could certainly sneak Sherlock in as a middle name. Even if you do call him Holmes. He's an awesome character and I honestly think it's a name a kid could be proud of!
My names Samantha, and I like that my Mum got my name from Bewitched!! So, that sort of stuff kids always love. And then they grow up, and they still love it.

I appreciate everyone's feedback. It's good to have a sounding board for these things. I am hoping that the BBC series and the movies help take away from the old derogatory phrase. He's just such a fantastic character. Thanks for your help!
